Aug 7, 2009 Cassk, GBBF 09. Dark brown with a thin head. Aromas are chocolate malts with spicy, woody notes. Lots of herbal character with good smokiness. Flavours are sweet, smooth chocolate with dark chocolate bitterness and tang. Some caramel malts, too. Herbal and vinous with gritty grain and liquorice. Viscous and warming. Another very good De Molens brew.

Jul 23, 2009 RBESG Sheffield 2009 Grand Tasting at the Harlequin. Deep dark brown colour, beige head. Aroma of tar, peat, campfire, roasted malts, coffee, very very nice. Flavour is peat, roasted malts, hint of smoke, chocolate, but a lot sweeter than expected from the aroma. Hoppy and roasted bitter finish.

Jul 19, 2009 Tap at Copenhagen Beer Festival 2009. Clear dark brown color, fine beige head. Aroma is fantastic; smoke, roasted and carmale malt. Flavor is smoke, malt, sweetness, hops.

Black color, small head. Sudden peaty aroma, but also a bit dusty. Good body, strong chocolate flavor, nice whiskey/peaty touch. And the peaty final is very appreciated. Good (but below the average for De Molen).

Jul 8, 2009 On tap at Copenhagen Beerfestival. It’s a ruby to dark brown beer with a small, beige head. Peat and sweetness, caramel and roasted malts, and some earthy notes in the aroma. Peaty, sweet, slightly caramel flavor with a lovely hoppyness giving pine cones and bitterness. Medium to full body, slightly warming. Long sweet and bitter finish. A nice one, but a bit too peaty actually. (090516)

Hazy dark brown with an impressive beige head and a good amount of lacing. Wow, this is another cracker from Menno. Superb malty blend of slight sweetness, burnt toast, caramel and charcoal. Such awesome peaty character from the malt. Almost thick and tarry in the mouth with some faint iodine and band aid. Hint of leather in the finish that is instantly punished with great hit of bitterness. Eventual smoky aftertaste rounds it off really well. Excellent.

Jun 8, 2009 Sampled@Københavnske Øldage 2009. Big yellowish head, plain brown colored body. A sharp, rubbery smoke aroma up front, followed by a faint whiff dark fruits and malts. Taste has a sharpish campfire-smokiness, and some medium sweet dark malts underneath. Well prononced hoppy bitterness. Healthy body. Softens a bit in the finish. Rough on the palate. Fruity bitterness in the ending.

Jun 2, 2009 100ml served rather chilled from tap. Deep mahogany body with a fawn coloured foamy head. Whisky-like aroma with a peaty touch. Smooth hoppy fruits in flavour on a smoked background. Bitter fruity ending that feels really well balanced on the swallow (CBF, 16.09.2009).
