Commercial Description:
There’s plenty of fruit like orange, tangerine and sweet apples. It’s powerful and full bodied but still easy going. Although the name would suggest otherwise, it’s our favourite amongst the female clientele yet also highly appreciated by the other sex. Well hopped as always, but the obvious alcohol and the massive malt and fruit character restrict the hops to the background, only to reveal itself in the finish. Full bodied, notes of champagne. Champagne mousse after pouring in the glass. Grapes and a hint of mandarin curacao in the aroma, together with a hint of vin mousseux. Malty sweet flavor, immensely full bodied, with mandarine curacao and vinous notes. Thick mouthfeel, just a touch of yeast in the aftertaste. Huge beer.

Bottle. Dark amber red with no head. Aromas are spiced oranges with vanilla and cream. Raisins with woody notes and golden syrup. Flavours are sweet and fruity with pear, berries and oranges. Plummy with raisins and cough medicine. Spicy with warming alcohol on the finish. Smooth and sticky on the palate. Very nice.

750 ml bottle courtesy of Papsoe This was an interesting beer. Huge flavor of brown sugar. There is no way that I could have drank a pint of this. It’s very sweet and I could see having a small quantity, like a dessert liqueur.

Bottled. Dark amber coloured. Unclear. Small almost non existing fluffy beige head. Aroma of ripe fruits. Has some spice and raisins to it. Light alcohol notable. Flavour are sugary, full of vanilla, fruits, other spices, alcohol, light caramel and some kind of nuts. Medium to full bodied. Is sweeet and heavily warming in the end. A monster of a beer, which is a bit difficult to drink by your own.

750 ml bottle. A hazy medium amber beer with no head. The arom ais powerful and sweet with a heavy maltiness and a light hoppiness. There are notes of fruits (orange and dark fruits), caramel and alcohol. Not overly complex, but pleasant. The flavour is heavily swee, lightly acidic, lightly bitter. Syrupy.warming, sugary. Full body, soft carbonation, long sweet finish with light bitterness, moderately to highly alcoholic. Surely not bad, but too sweet and sticky/syrupy for my liking.

Pours a rich dark brown colour with a little head, noneby the end of the bottle. Fairly full mouthfeel, supplemented by lots of caramel. This is sweet and apricot fruity. Very sweet, this is one year old of its stated 25 year life, and should be even more interesting after five years. Drinkable and super high alcohol is hidden. Thanks Bierkoning.

Bottle. Spicy aroma with nuts and raisins and wine. Clear deep redbrown colour with beige head. Very sweet flavour with dates, plums and malt. Hoips are very discrete but the finish is lightly bitter with some wood. Except for the high percentage of alcohol there is no resemblence to bombs and granates, Who wouldn’t prefer the female sweetness to these awful weapons?

Bottle kindly shared by Beerlando. Pours amber with a scant white head, no retention. A huge sweet, fruity, caramel malt barleywine with some new world citrus hops in the nose. Sippable, low carb, the alcohol isn’t overbearingly boozy and actually thins this out and makes the sweetness bearable. The hopping is mainly aromatic and don’t show up with a strong bitterness. Still very fresh.

Brewed 2/25/09 and bottled 4/1/09. Wax dipped 11.2oz bottle #528 of 1200 from this batch. Pours a hazy, dark golden-orange amber color. A minimal, clear bubbled head laves no lace, but shows some dense, sugary sheeting on the glass. The aroma shows massive amounts of malt, most notably sweet caramel, candy, and reduced apple mash. A bold citrus hopping shows ample, bitter aromatics, though it doesn’t live up to the huge malt billing. Flavors again include massive candy, caramel-dipped apples, browned pears, and a touch of golden raisin. Vanilla and a hint of cinnamon lend smooth, spicy depth. The body is Hardy’s thick, sugary as hell and smooth, with little carbonation. The sweetness covers up the huge alcohol well, but leaves a sticky residue that is hard to deal with. Though I couldn’t drink much of this, it makes for a solid after dinner barleywine to be shared amongst a few people. Good stuff in small quantities.
