11.2 oz. bottle, purchased by my mom at the brewery during her trip to the Netherlands in the spring of 2008. Thanks Mom! Consumed on Christmas day, 2008. Dry, malty aroma features brownie and plum scents as well as a hint of mocha. The smell is nice, but it*s not as strong or as complex as I had hoped. Pours a rich and opaque but not particularly dark brown with a golden to amber hue and a small amount of beige head. Large amount of suspended particulate. Very appetizing appearance. Dry taste of coffee and dark chocolate with a tangy, lemony finish. Much less sweet than the aroma implies. Burnt malts produce a charcoal-like taste, but not in a bad way. Yeasty. Some sweetness gradually emerges upon multiple sips. Medium body. Silky texture. A touch on the dull side in the palate. De Molen Borefts Stout is a good, solid but unspectacular example of the style.

(Bottle thanks to Porter Otto and Åsa) Pours dark mahogany brown with small sand colored head. The aroma is fruity and light roasted with tones of canned pears, candy and milk chocolate cake. Undertones of sweet liquorice, flowers and vanilla powder. The flavour is sweet sugary and sweet malty with tones of fruits, sweet liquorice and milk chocolate. The mouthfeel is watery and round. Aftertaste of mild roast and creamy toast. Near medium bodied.

Hazy brown with large beige head. Sweet aroma with roasted malt, chocolate and coffee notes. Sweet flavor with roasted malt, caramel, chocolate and coffee notes.

Bottle @ Arendsnest. Dark red/brown beer, big head. Aroma of roasted malts, tar, sweetness. Taste is bitter, burnt malts, tar, brown sugar. Soft mouthfeel. Nice beer.

(Bottle 75 cl) Courtesy of fonefan. Hazy reddish brown with a tall and lively beige head. Burned malt aroma with some vanilla. Medium-bodied with sweetish, hard roasted malts, ashes and vanilla accents. Soft mouthfeel and a discreet bitterness. 190608

At the brewery pub. A dark red/brown Colored beer, with a large foamy beige head. The aroma of bitter roasted malts. The taste is dry with coffee and chocolate notes. Also a little dark fruits. A dry bitter aftertaste. A good beer

Bottle from The Ramsgate Brewery, Broadstairs: Very dark stout with a large head. Fairly simple but masterfully constructed stout. Everything you want in a stout is there without being too fancy. Lots of roasted malt and chocolate. Lovely stuff.
