| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Apr 25, 2009 Bottled (from Cracked Kettle). Very deep ambery brown colour, close to black, with huge brown foamy head. Aroma is coffee, toffee, some roasted malts, licorice, ashes and tobaccoa. Flavour is tobacco, liquorice, some ashes, mild alcohol and nuts. Very smooth, and gets a bit vanillaish when getting warm. 4.1 sounds a bit high as a rating, but I really can’t find any element I would lower from this... So probably it deserves it. caesar (3034), Bunnik/Utrecht, Netherlands

Winning an award at the GBBF and after trying it the second time, i can understand why. Nicely balanced, strong in taste with coffee, mocha, chocolat, roasted malts. Very nice!
Original: Deep black color, thin off-white head. Aroma of roasted malt, licorice and some laurel. Sweet taste of heavy roasted malts, coffee, some chocolate. skortila (2903), Bunnik, Netherlands

Hazy, perhaps cloudy black coloured with a lasting, thin, brown head. Taste is sweet, carbonated, quite roasted, malty (choclate and coffee). Bit dry, slightly sticky mouthfeel. Decent body. Just a bit watery. Quite okay brew. Rerate 2007-06-10. On tap @ brewery. This time, not the carbonated experience, but a more creamy stout with a very pleasant mouthfeel. Original rating 3.3, but this beer definately deserves more. jbrus (4863), Delft, Netherlands

On tap it’s even more beautiful. I love stouts and I love the fact that there’s finally a new good Stout brewed in the Netherlands. Bottled. I think most people should rerate this beer because they probably had a bad bottle. I really liked this a lot. Aroma of roasted coffee, chocolat, light herbal and fruity blackberries. Dark ruby color, almost black, brown head, good lace. Light sweet, pretty bitter and even more towards the end, very roasted and fruity. Medium body, light dry and sandy. Not your average stout but a very good beer! bierkoning (6043), La Tropica, Netherlands
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Mar 18, 2006 A bit light colored, certainly not black but dark brown, this stout. But it is an excellent one! Roast aroma, of course, but also milky, with coffee and chocolate notes, like a refined mocha melange. The flavor is less subtle. Roasted malt, bitter chocolate, maple syrup. Loads of hops. Blackberries, licorice. Very well done, this beer! MesandSim (5851), London, Greater London, England

Chestnut brown with a very good and well behaved dark beige head. Excellent fruity malt with a lovely sweet perfume note. Light hints of tobacco, stewed plums and lovely mineral notes too. A good smell. All of the above in the flavour along with some excellent chocolate and coffee hints. Pleasant bitterness in the finish rounds things off beautifully. The alcohol is pretty much undetectable. Well made, reasonably complex and very enjoyable. Another class act from Menno. reakt (937), Greater London, England

Fantastic nose of roasted malts, double cream, coffee beans. Tastes like a milkshake! It’s soooooooooooo creamy... and not just in texture. Tastes of double cream, coffee, roasted malts, walnuts, vanilla and chocolate. Finish of roasted malts and rolos. Reminds me of the French vanilla coffee creamer I used to buy in the States. If anything, it’s too creamy but damn good no less..
