Very dark brown color. Dark fruit, dark chocolate, brandy and alcohol all make big appearance in the nose. Mildly sour, plum, raisins, burnt sugar, treacles, dark chocolate, boozy mouth, but not sweet. A Belgian dubble on steroids!

Tap. Very special liqour like beer. Strong alcohol aroma and flavour yet very integrated and stylish. Clean, powerfull and complex with notes of smoke, caramell, light chocolate and liqourice yet in a rather bright sense. Woud love to try a aged bottled version.

Black color, no head. The aroma of mellow roasted malt and caramel is not persistent, it leaves room to the alcohol. Strong mouthfeel, flavor of caramel, chocolate, roasted malt, light liquorice and tobacco; very light raisins at the end. Warming alcohol. Confusing mix of quite good elements. Powerful.

Bottled. Dark color, medium brown head. Aroma of roasted malt, licorice, hop, some whisky, hint of smoke and peat. Heavy roasted malty taste, some chocolat, hint of coffee, peat. Thick and full flavored. Nice stuff.

On tap @ EBF 2008. Totally black body with a thin, lasing brown head. Complex, vinous aroma of liquorices, roasted coffee and dry fruit. Flavor is also complex, dark, sweet malt, oak, vanilla, coffee, dry fruit, port/sherry and alcohol. To the edge of what beer is about, m\nice for sipping.

Bottled. Aroma has strong maltiness, prunes, raisins, wine. Hazy, dark brown coloured with an off-white head. The taste is bitter, sweet and very massive, full bodied. Has some fruitiness, wine, roasted malts and some oak. Loads in it. A bit too much of everything for me. Nice experiment.

Cask [gravity] at EBF 2008, Copenhagen, Denmark. Clear medium to dark brown black color with a average, frothy, good lacing, mostly diminishing, beige head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, roasted, caramel, coffee, chocolate, licorice, vinous. Flavor is heavy sweet and bitter with a long duration. Body is medium to full, texture is creamy - syrupy, carbonation is flat. It was one of my first and last beers the first all the days at EBF, Mrs fonefan did as usual not drink much else than De Molen beers this time Cuvee and not Esra Res ... there must be something with great big wooden cask or is it Menno .. 120908

Draught. Pitch black colour, hardly any head. Sweet very roasty dark fruity alco aroma. Sticky mouthfeel. The flavour is quite sweet with lots of roasted malt and caramel, alcohol, some spice, dark fruits and liquorice. quite sweet and too much alcohol present but a good nighty night beer.
