Cask. A hazy deep red beer with an orangey head. The aroma has notes of sweet malt and over ripe fruits. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt and acidic brettanomyces notes from the wood combined with notes of vanilla, leading to a dry woody and alcoholic finish. The alcohol leaves a slight burn in the mouth.

(Cask) Clear dark brown with a warm reddish hue and a rough, off-white head. Piquant, lightly tart and vinous aroma - not really much of a malty feel. Not overly full-bodied and a little low in carbonation, some hard roasted maltiness but again very piquant and lightly tart. Subdued bitterness and a very warming alcohol in the finish. Very delicious - the wine barrel really did wonders to this one 120908

From a wooden cask. Pours clear and golden deep amber with a small creamy and tan head. Grape fruity and mild wooden aroma. Smooth fruity and very inviting. Smooth fruity and slight alcoholic initial impression. The fruity flavours smoothly linger into the back of the tongue providing a smooth vanilla and mild chocolate. Dominant fruity finish with a mild alcohol warmth.

Draught at European Beer Festival, Copenhagen. Dark brown, minimal head. Vinous nose with some coffee. Full bodied with rounded mouthfeel. Caramelly and phenolic, vinous and viscous. Somehow the flavours seem like they are contained in a plastic bag and does not full come out. A full sized beer with lots of things going on, but I don’t understand them all.

Cask [gravity] at EBF 2008, Copenhagen, Denmark. Clear medium to dark brown black color with a average, frothy, good lacing, mostly diminishing, beige head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, roasted, caramel, coffee, chocolate, licorice, vinous. Flavor is heavy sweet and bitter with a long duration. Body is medium to full, texture is creamy - syrupy, carbonation is flat. It was one of my first and last beers the first all the days at EBF, Mrs fonefan did as usual not drink much else than De Molen beers this time Cuvee and not Esra Res ... there must be something with great big wooden cask or is it Menno .. 120908

Big wooden cask@EBF2008. Black colour, not much head. Aroma is alcohol, dark dry fruits, some yeast and plum. Flavour is licorice, alcohol, some chocolate, raisins, caramel and also a mild note of coffee lurking. Very wellbalanced and pleasant to drink.

Draught at EBF 2008. Pitch black coloured with a medium sized lacing beige head. Sweet and light roasted aroma of red wine, oak, vanilla and caramel with notes of coffee. Light roasted flavour of coffee, red wine, oak and hops with notes of alcohol. Roasted, hoppy and warming alcoholic finish. Combines the best from a sour ale with the best from an imperiial stout.
