| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Mar 4, 2009 75cl bottle courtesy of argo0. Hazy amber beer with a lasting head. Rich malty caramel and cherry aroma. Smooth malty flavors of vanilla, caramel, and molasses, with some fruity yeast flavors, but a relatively clean profile. Creamy full body. This was really nice stuff; great balance and mouthfeel with an interesting yeasty component that doesn’t seem very typical for the style. bierkoning (6050), La Tropica, Netherlands
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Feb 24, 2009 Corked bottle. Dark brown color. Malt, caramel and maple syrup in the arioma. Firm grassy, malty flavor with hints of cinnamon, caramel and dried fruit. No carbon, but that is my fault. I drank the beer within 3 weeks of bottling. Still a good beer and a worthy doppelbock, that shows a lot of promise. Will re-rate sooner or later. Theis (3756), Denmark

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jan 4, 2009 Doppelbock? - Perhaps my bottle is infected in some way? - pours a hazy amber, with a thick ring of lace - the aroma is of cherry skins, light sourness/earthy character, and undercurrents of acidity, juniper, chocolate - smells almost like a mild flanders red with a light chocolate kick to it - medium carbonation and body - the flavor starts with a mild sour cherry character, raisin, mild acidity - a little bit of caramel sweetness arrives after that, as well a tiny bit of roast - some orangy tang - gets even sweeter in the finish, ending mostly with toffee - starts out like a subdued sour ale, and ends like the doppelbock it’s supposed to be (although it doesn’t taste lagered at all) - this might not be what the brewer intended, but it certainly is interesting. PS - the label also states that this is an ale - perhaps the style listing is incorrect? jrob21 (1268), Atlanta, Georgia, USA
