Big imperial stout like the hel en verdoemenis, but with clear oak chips added to aroma and taste, without the beer becoming too dry. It is still very nice and creamy, which keeps the liquid strong chocolate taste alive. I should have bought more bottles, again. :-)
Tap at Copenhagen Beerfestival 09. Dark flat. Soft malty, nicely rounded. Bit red wine as well, malty. Soft and balanced. 4.2 jerohen (1615), Bussum, Netherlands
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 3/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Jul 26, 2009 Bottled, shared with caesar en skortila. Opaque black, no head whatsoever. Nose of roasted malts, chocolate, caramel, very nice. Sweet flavour, little bitterness underneath, chocolate notes all the way, wood shines through, perhaps some cognac. Extremely complex brew, and in stark contrast with American imperial stouts not extremely bitter, thereby allowing the complexity to be fully appreciated. Different from the regular version, but just as good. cgarvieuk (4227), Edinburgh, Scotland

| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jul 18, 2009 Bottle from De Bierkoning. Black with no traces of head. Almost like motor oil. Wonderful chocolate and vanilla aroma, also mildly roasted coffee. Chcolate, vanilla, good roasted flavours, a subtle fruitiness towards the finish. Smooth as velvet and flat. A masterpiece. | 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Jul 18, 2009 Thanks Patrik! Pours inky and pretty black. No chance of getting a head on this. The aroma is bonfire, bitter chocolate, peanuts...a big complex nose. Superviscous...coffee burn, rich chocolate...mouth-coating. There is some rum character, as opposed to cognac. This is a crazy beer, so thick. You get alcohol late and it cuts through - only slightly - the thick malts. It actually tastes quite nutricious, with a big fat oak finish. Astonishingly drinkable, as the heat is muted. Beershine (2754), Traipsing Around, China
| 4.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Jul 14, 2009 2009 Bottle, thanks to oh6gdx (Patrik) for sharing! Inky, viscous, luscious, bloody black pour. The aroma is hellishly good and from the bowels of the earth with magma, ashes from a hellfire, carbon, quartz, the whole molten core. Thick flat and perfect palate. The chocolate in the flavors are up-front, powerful, and extraordinary whereas the coffee flavors are very subtle. It’s like the heaven in balance to the devilish aroma. The smooth creamy palate carries every molecule of this elixir to every cell of my body. It’s like drinking chocolate that has been filtered through carbon, smooth as mother’s milk. This is Haute Bier! fiulijn (7520), Como; Lausanne (CH); Malmö (SWE), Italy

The aroma is a bit papery, breadish, with light vanilla and cognac. Good body, excellent mix of chocolate, roasted malt, cookies, sweetness, cognac, sweet nuts, light alcohol, light coffee. Well balanced, yet powerful. Great!
