Jun 7, 2009 On tap. Pours an opaque black with hardly any head. Sweet Brandy aroma, coffee and chocolate. Intensely full-bodied with almost no carbonation, fat accents of hard roasted malt, vanilla and Brandy with a piquante edge of wood. Some malt bitterness in the finish combined with a warming alcohol. My kinda beer! 160509

May 25, 2009 CBF09. 33 cL bottle. Pours pitch black with a fully gone head. Aroma is dense chocolate roasted malt. Light smoked note. Smooth sweet chocolate with a distinct vanilla note. Vanilla and sweet flavoured finish alongside a nice roasted chocolate malt flavoured finish.

Clear dark black color with a small, fizzy, fair lacing, fully diminishing, off-white head. Aroma is heavy malty, roasted, burnt, chocolate, spruce, wood, bourbon. Flavor is heavy sweet and bitter with a long duration. Body is medium to full, texture is syrupy, carbonation is flat. [20090516]

Jul 8, 2009 Bottled (from Ölkonsortiet, Aalborg). Pitch black colour, not much head. Aroma is coffee, liquorice, some caramel malts as well as mild sherrylike notes. Flavour is coffee, liquorice, toffee, smoke and roasted malts. All in a good balance. Yet another very balanced and pleasant brew from De Molen.

Jul 18, 2009 Thanks Patrik! Pours inky and pretty black. No chance of getting a head on this. The aroma is bonfire, bitter chocolate, peanuts...a big complex nose. Superviscous...coffee burn, rich chocolate...mouth-coating. There is some rum character, as opposed to cognac. This is a crazy beer, so thick. You get alcohol late and it cuts through - only slightly - the thick malts. It actually tastes quite nutricious, with a big fat oak finish. Astonishingly drinkable, as the heat is muted.

Black color, no head. The aroma is a bit papery, breadish, with light vanilla and cognac. Good body, excellent mix of chocolate, roasted malt, cookies, sweetness, cognac, sweet nuts, light alcohol, light coffee. Well balanced, yet powerful. Great!
