Commercial Description:
Brewed with brown malts, an English traditional specialty malt, we created an Imperial Russian Stout that has won prizes at festivals across Europe from Sweden to Italy. It’s big, black, roasted and complex. We are convinced that not trying this ale will be a mortal sin to your taste buds and beer experience. Oak chips have been put in 40 year old cognac and then added to the beer.

Bottled (from Ölkonsortiet, Aalborg). Pitch black colour, not much head. Aroma is coffee, liquorice, some caramel malts as well as mild sherrylike notes. Flavour is coffee, liquorice, toffee, smoke and roasted malts. All in a good balance. Yet another very balanced and pleasant brew from De Molen.

2009 Bottle, thanks to oh6gdx (Patrik) for sharing! Inky, viscous, luscious, bloody black pour. The aroma is hellishly good and from the bowels of the earth with magma, ashes from a hellfire, carbon, quartz, the whole molten core. Thick flat and perfect palate. The chocolate in the flavors are up-front, powerful, and extraordinary whereas the coffee flavors are very subtle. It’s like the heaven in balance to the devilish aroma. The smooth creamy palate carries every molecule of this elixir to every cell of my body. It’s like drinking chocolate that has been filtered through carbon, smooth as mother’s milk. This is Haute Bier!

Thanks Patrik! Pours inky and pretty black. No chance of getting a head on this. The aroma is bonfire, bitter chocolate, peanuts...a big complex nose. Superviscous...coffee burn, rich chocolate...mouth-coating. There is some rum character, as opposed to cognac. This is a crazy beer, so thick. You get alcohol late and it cuts through - only slightly - the thick malts. It actually tastes quite nutricious, with a big fat oak finish. Astonishingly drinkable, as the heat is muted.

Bottle 33cl.
Clear dark black color with a small, fizzy, fair lacing, fully diminishing, off-white head. Aroma is heavy malty, roasted, burnt, chocolate, spruce, wood, bourbon. Flavor is heavy sweet and bitter with a long duration. Body is medium to full, texture is syrupy, carbonation is flat. [20090516]

Bottled. Big imperial stout like the hel en verdoemenis, but with clear oak chips added to aroma and taste, without the beer becoming too dry. It is still very nice and creamy, which keeps the liquid strong chocolate taste alive. I should have bought more bottles, again. :-) Tap at Copenhagen Beerfestival 09. Dark flat. Soft malty, nicely rounded. Bit red wine as well, malty. Soft and balanced. 4.2
