HV (4), Utrecht, Netherlands does not count Nov 1, 2009 Appearance: pours a very dark, nearly opaque, with a nice reddish-brown foamy cap that unfortunately quickly dissipates
Aroma has prunes, malts, and a little orange.
Mouthfeel: this drinks like a classic milk stout. The body is incredibly creamy – beautiful.
Flavour: is again lots of prunes, with a chocolatey/coffee malt layer underneath, and a hint of orange peel at the end. I was pleasantly surprised to find hardly any toasty notes here.
Drinkability: this could be a beer you’d love one glass after another. It could be, if there wasn’t the 10.2% alcohol in it. It’s such a sweet, creamy, tasty, drinkable beer. Crosling (1854), Loveland, Colorado, USA Oct 29, 2009 Bottle from De Bierkoning.
Not a surprise, I find this beer delicious in every way. Excellent look with a large creamy tan head and near pitch black body. Strong flavor intensity and complexity from start to finish. Coating mouth feel. Nose is strong and fairly complex. An incredibly great beer. Quite stunning. De Molen’s beers are one of a kind. The best stout brewer on earth. anders37 (4516), Malmö, Sweden Oct 24, 2009 Draught at Københavns Øldage 2009, Valby. Pours a black color with a thick tan head. Pours black with no head. Aroma is roasted malt, chocolate and light coffee. Flavour is roasted malt, chocolate, coffee and liquorish. Nice. skortila (2877), Bunnik, Netherlands Oct 2, 2009 Bottled. I really need to keep track of my ratings. I drank half a crate of this beer during the summer period. Mostly in the evenings with something to read or a movie. This beer really suits for those moments with its long lasting bitter finish. Aroma has chocolate, vanilla, oak and coffee. Pitch black coloured beer with a thin, beige head. The taste is roasted, bit sweet with chcocolate and coffee. Lingering chocolate-bitter palate. Full bodied. Bit like the Yeti. For me one of the best Molen brews. stobbe74 (655), Denmark Sep 5, 2009 Sampled at DØE Beerfestival 2009, Valby. Pours a pitch black beer with a very small head. The aroma and flavor is roasted, licorice, coffee and chokolate. The palate is bitter, a good body and low carbonation.
