Commercial Description:
Imperial Stout – 10,2% vol. Twice the amount of dark roasted malts used, massive Imperial stout. This is a mad one. Black brown colour with a thick and creamy tan head that can be added to as you wish if you give the bottle a swirl. Give this beer time to breathe and blossom into something truly stunning. Chocolate and alcohol are right there at the front but do not at all overpower the gorgeousness that is underneath. Full of leather, vanilla, amazing wooden notes, beautifully floral character from the hops, thick Belgian chocolate, much character. The flavour of crazy wooden tartness. An extremely bitter finish seems to come out of nowhere and is what really makes this quite unique. Superb width in the mouth and coats the whole palate beautifully.

Bottle from De Bierkoning.

Not a surprise, I find this beer delicious in every way. Excellent look with a large creamy tan head and near pitch black body. Strong flavor intensity and complexity from start to finish. Coating mouth feel. Nose is strong and fairly complex. An incredibly great beer. Quite stunning. De Molen’s beers are one of a kind. The best stout brewer on earth.

12oz bottle shared at the DC Local tasting. Look out, this was a gusher. Pours a slightly viscous, opaque black with a frothy beige head. Aroma is boozy, smoke, almost burnt tire, brown sugar. Flavor is sweet, molasses, smoke, burnt toast, chocolate, light wood. Very VERY thick in the mouth.

33cl bottle, #050. Dark murky brown, firm tanned head. Nosy is smokiness, faint berry wine, licorice and cocoa, molasses. Flavor is molasses, strong licorice sweetness, a bit hot and yeasty, faint smoke and coal. Medium to full bodied, very smooth silky palate. Hey drink up, here’s another De Molen Impy, this time a bit sweeter than normally.

Bottled (bottled 05/2009, bottle #050)
Pitch black color, small brown head. Roasted, vanilla ice cream aroma. Milk, milk chocolate, roasted coffeish flavor. Aftertaste is roasted with some sweetness. Silky mouthfeel. Good but not really complex.

Bottled (from Cracked Kettled). Quite much black colour, small brown head. Aroma is liquorice, chocolate, vanilla and big time burnt wood. Flavour is quite the same, big coffee, ashes, liquorice and some rather big time alcohol as well. Nicely balanced, but a bit too strong alcoholic

Appearance: pours a very dark, nearly opaque, with a nice reddish-brown foamy cap that unfortunately quickly dissipates Aroma has prunes, malts, and a little orange. Mouthfeel: this drinks like a classic milk stout. The body is incredibly creamy – beautiful. Flavour: is again lots of prunes, with a chocolatey/coffee malt layer underneath, and a hint of orange peel at the end. I was pleasantly surprised to find hardly any toasty notes here. Drinkability: this could be a beer you’d love one glass after another. It could be, if there wasn’t the 10.2% alcohol in it. It’s such a sweet, creamy, tasty, drinkable beer.
