| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jul 7, 2009 A Mes rate: bottle at Pre ZBF. Semi hazy amber with a head that vanished in seconds. The cognac is totally clear but far from being over powering but there are also notes of calvados and sherry. It’s another of those De Molen desert barley wines. Not quite so incredible as the Bombs and Grenades but still mighty tasty. Lots of sugar and toffee and maybe just verging on cloying. Plenty of alcohol showing but not in a bad way, more in a waheeeeyyyyy this is going to get me spangled way. Massive fruity finish that lasts for a week. Possibly just a little too sweet and lacking a bit of bitterness for balance. Still, mad, bad and great fun. Kinda like Jens really. yngwie (4998), Kristiansand, Norway
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jul 6, 2009 On tap at Copenhagen Beerfestival. It pours a flat, copper-colored almost clear body without any head. Sweetish, syrupy nose with a nice slightly resiny hop touch and alcohol. Sweetish, syrupy flavor too, some alcohol warmth, peaches, some pinecones and a little bitterness. Full-bodied, warming, almost sticky mouthfeel. Burning finish with sugar and some bitterness. A nice one, but a bit too heavy on the alcohol and sweetness. (090516) NoiZe (1372), Mooi Zeist, Netherlands
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jun 29, 2009 Orange, amber colored brew. Aroma is malty, ripe fruits, cognac. The flavor is very sweet and thick. Apricot, ripe fruits, cognac, alcohol. Almost an after diner liqueur. I think this is not at it’s full potential now. Re-rate later. | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jun 24, 2009 Bottle. Very low and quickly disappearing white fluffy head. Hazy dark red body. Caramel rye vineous aroma. Very sweet caramel black berries honey oak cognac flavor. Low carbonation. Long sweet aftertaste. Be careful out there. No sign of the high alcohol percentage. Very well hidden by the sweetness of the beer. Geuzelambix (110), København, Denmark
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 12/20 | Jun 16, 2009 Totally flat palate. Extreme aroma - an explotion of dark fruit. The flavor is a tad more subtle but still packed with prune and caramel. Gets a bit too much in the long run (even during a half a small bottle), but a must try I would say - though not a must buy. | 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jun 8, 2009 Draught@Københavnske Øldage 2009. Reddish brown, low carbonated body with good clarity. No head. Sugary and slight peppery caramel aroma. Plummy fruitiness and notes of tinned dark fruits. Very sweet-flavored. Alcohol-soaked, chewy malts, caramel and dark fruits. A faint wooden note. Fat body. Thick and warm in the mouth. No hops detected. Finishes sweet with a quite pleasant alcohol warmth. A sweetheart. ChristianScheffel (4632), Odense, Denmark
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jun 6, 2009 Updated: Jun 29, 2009Amber with a small, or non-existant off-white head. Aroma of caramel, bready malt, figs and prunes, and sherry or cognac. Sweet and malty. Like the original, too sugary sweet for my taste, with a lot of alcohol showing, but maybe a little more mellow. I wonder how it might fare in the cellar for a while. Will that be like keeping Jens in my cellar as my Gimp?
