Palate and finish nicely belies the higher alcohol. Well balanced and not overly sweet or acrid, with lasting finish.
I am wondering if the very low carbonation (practically still) was intended, as it really works for this beer. chriso (4852), London, Greater London, England

Coffee through and through. Also some dark chocolate. Sweetish and rich. Not the most complex but a luscious and tasty brew. Gorgeously drinkable for the strength. Another winner from Menno. Beer of the festival for me.

| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Dec 21, 2009 Black with a longlasting biege head. Aroma is intense coffe and hard roasted malt. Flavour is pure coffe, coffe beans, freshly brewed coffe, creamy mocca, chocolate and hard roasted malt with a bitter coffe finish. I love my coffe and this one did the trick. Intense flavourwise but still rather drinkable for the ABV. Maria (6326), Thisted, Denmark
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Dec 20, 2009 It’s black with a red hue and a small, creamy head. The aroma has notes of coffee and quite a lot of ashes and a little fruit. The flavor is moderately sweet with notes of coffee, yeast, ashes and perhaps very light hints of smoke before the dry finish, that has a light hint of citrus. It’s a bit brutal and the ashes is a bit to much for me. DJMonarch (6941), Northwich, Cheshire, England

Big coffee aroma. Large beige head. Black a little sweet on the palate and hoppy with a little dryness and bitterness in a crisp coffee flavoured finish. planky84 (149), , Greater London, England
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Nov 1, 2009 Bottle from Beers of Europe. Pours black with a tan head. Leaves some nice lacing around the glass. Good carbonation. Aromas of coffee, roasted malts, caramel, smoke, wood. Flavours of caramel, brown sugar, smoke. Finishes malty and bitter with a huge alcohol burn. Nice. Crosling (1856), Loveland, Colorado, USA

It’s a very nice coffee stout, but a bit disappointing considering the brewer. I’m used to such profound richness with De Molen’s dark beers, and this particular one just isn’t quite there. Appearance is great with a dark tan head that lasts for hours. Aroma doesn’t have much potency or distinction for me at this time. Flavor is quite complex, mostly dominated by coffee. The malts don’t melt and coat your mouth like other De Molen stouts. Still a very nice beer.
