mgumby10 (1648), West Palm Beach, Florida, USA Jul 14, 2008 Courtesy hopscotch. Pours a cloudy orange with a small white head. Smells of rich orange citrus, some juicy hops, and a mild spice character. The flavor has a pretty big dosage of malt, mixed with big hops, and subtle spice. Not overly hoppy, and balanced pretty well. Maybe not as big and bold as I like my double IPA’s, but still had some decent flavor going on. Not a bad showing.
SuzyGreenberg (1028), Seattle, Washington, USA Sep 30, 2008 750 ml - pours straw gold and slightly cloudy; thin white head and minor lacing; very mild, creamy body; aromas are kind of stale and not bitter of IIPA-ish in any way; drinks with a sweet, lemony bitterness; flavors are soft and rich; amazing texture to this one; consensus at the table was that this was a very nice saison and not really an IIPA in any way; oh well, still a tasty brew not matter how its classified bb (2131), Martinez, California, USA Sep 22, 2008 Bottle. Amber beer with a big cream-colored head. Citrus (orange) aroma with grass and yeast. Citrus, earth, yeast flavor with light grass and malt backing. Big hop flavor, but not a lot of bitterness. Medium bodied. Hop flavor lingers with malt and yeast. Some cocoa and darker malts show as it warms. Davecooks (1150), Bay Area, California, USA Sep 22, 2008 Bottle. Pours a murky, straw color with a frothy, ivory head. Strawberry and floral aromas. Smells sweet. Malty with a somewhat high hop bitterness. Very fruity primarily with stone fruit notes. Slight oxidation. Outside of a strange astringency towards the end, it’s not a bad beer but I was surprised to see it classified as an IIPA, I wouldn’t call it that- but the beer is still pretty enjoyable. gnoff (2825), Göteborg, Sweden Sep 18, 2008 (75 cl bottle thanks to ekstedt!) On September 17, 2008. Shady orange to copper color, white head. Fruity and hoppy scent, some smoke. Sweet, bitterm phenolic taste. Moussy mouthfeel, medium high bitterness. ekstedt (1954), Göteborg, Sweden Sep 18, 2008 Bottle (75 cl) from Ølbutikken. Hazy amber, medium off-white head. Fruity aroma with apricots and peaches, and with rural manure notes. Medium bodied, moussy mouthfeel. Dry and bitter finish. A disappointment.
