Nose is alcoholic, aceton tones and bayleave. Very dark color. Black!. Taste is burned and smokey like lasong souchong tea. Aftertaste is however flat and thin. Nice beer to experience bitterness in beer but not to have another glass.

(Bottled, 01 Nov 2008, bottle #566). Courtesy of bierkoning, ty Edo! Opaque black color, almost no head. Roasted coffee, dark malts, vanilla and cocoa powder in the nose. Intense palate, full body. Licorice, cocoa, dark coffee beans and chocolate in the flavor. Some vanilla notes. In the aftertaste hops dominate over roastyness and there is evident alcohol as well, but just a good amount of it. Propably one year cellaring has improved this a bit. Same time sweet, bitter and toasted. Another classic masterpiece from De Molen. This is actually quite close to Närke Kaggen Stormaktsporter, but slightly sweeter.

Bottled. A pitch black beer with a collapsing brown head. The aroma is sweet with notes of roasted malt, alcohol, coffee, prunes, and some spices. The flavor is sweet malty with strong notes roasted malt, licorice, soy sauce, prunes, and some coffee. The finish is dry woody, roasted, and bitter. Thanks fonefan and Brugmansia for sharing.

330. Thanks, Maria! Jet black. Light garnet highlights. Big musty, earthy, slightly salty nose. Very boozy and pruney as well. Light, still body. Earthy, dark-chocolate-y body, very smooth. Mild coffee finish. This is an understated beer, much more concerned with balance and harmony than it is with power. And it’s more interesting for it. The booze does peek through here and there, particularly on the nose, but, overall, this is an amazingly well-crafted and restrained beer. Absolutely lovely, and a treasure forever.

Very flat. Somewhat muddy dark brown with no head. Rich, tarry nose is full of dark fruits, charred molasses malts, salty sting and earthy richness. Full body. The mouthfeel is only slightly oily. Thick, rich, filling. Very sweet but with substantial roast bitterness at the back. Some of that 72% cacoa good stuff, along with rich Yunnan tea, more burnt sugars, Chinese doughnut sweetness and barely-there fruits. A rich, hearty brew that finishes simultaneously sweet, silky and intense.

Bottle, many thanks to jbrus. Pours flat, viscous dark brown-black. Aroma is rich, earthy blend of minerals, iron-rich soil, dates, cola, and charcoal. Flatness detracts somewhat from the palate, which is naturally silky smooth and neither too thick nor too thin. Fun flavors begin with vanilla and bourbon, then meander through gentle peaks of medium-roasted coffee beans. Toasty, slightly burnt, sophisticated, classy. A cigar-friendly brew.

Bottle at LCRBM08. Very nice liquorice flavour. Black colour. Big stable light brown head. Mild carbonation, served slightly warm which suits it very well. 8 4 8 4 16

Bottle, 11%. Sweet and vinous liquorice aroma. Almost black colour, seems clear. Small brown head. Good roasted and burnt flavour. A hint of tar and smoke comes on later. The flavour is quite sweet, balances off some of the distinct flavours as well as the alcohol. The mouthfeel gets a little thick from all the sugar, but does not get too sticky or syrupy. Mild and soft carbonation. 8 4 9 4 17

Bottle @ LCRBM 08: Poured a dark black brown with a thin tan color head. The aroma is liquorice, dark fruits, and coffee. The taste is sweet with fruits and liquorice, some bitter spices in the finish that create a warming along with the alcohol.
