Commercial Description:
Flemish Oud Bruin, with lactobacillus, fermented in Bordeaux and whisky barrels, and afterwards blended. Not very sour , the bordeaux barrels really take center stage. Supremely sophisticated woody aged malt flavor. Mild milky to a whisky dense caramel malt base. Nice blend which gives a distinct more "serious" malt base from the whisky compared to many other Flemish oud bruins, as a consequence the body is more full and smooth.

Bottle. Pours a slightly hazy amber color with a small off-white head. Has a sweetish malty sour vinegar aroma. Sweetish fruity malty oak flavor with hints of red wine. Sweetish fruity malty finish.

Bottled. Aroma has red wine, maltiness. Hazy, red-brown coloured with a lasting, off-white head. The taste is sweet, has some sourness, fruitiness, some malts and red wine. Good beer. Had this one on several occasions, never really made notes. A rerate is appropriate.

0.75 l bottle at PBF. Hazy reddish brown color. Sweet meaty aroma with red wine, nuts and tobacco. Nutty, woody and berryish red wine flavor. Needs more sourness and backbone, now this is fairly bland.

Hazy amber color; medium head. The aroma, mild, sourish, wild, is quite nice. It has a medium body and the flavor is less interesting.

Bottled at PBF (5.7%). Hazy nut brown, small head. A whiff of vinegar starts it off. Sweet buttery malt with some roastiness and oak carries it on over a medium body with a bit of yest and fruit. Finally it mellows out with low bitterness. Quite interesting.

Bottled 75 cl (PBF, brewed 10/2008, bottled in 2009, alc. 5.7%). Courtesy of bierkoning, thanks Edo! Ruby-nut brown color, small white head. Blue mold cheese and red wine in the nose. Medium-bodied. Caramel malty base, light sourness, red wine barrel flavors. Quite mild and "drinkable" De Molen. Taste is mainly light sour berries and red wine.

(Bottled, 0.75l) Muddy brown with almost no head. The aroma is not extremely tempting, with strange sourness, red wine and oak barrel. Red-wineous flavor with dull fruitiness. In the finish, there’s also whisky-like oak barrel, with tannins all the way. Medium body, dry and slightly thin with medium carbonation. In a strange way I began to like this towards the end of my hefty 10cl tasting portion. Maybe not so bad after all...
