Commercial Description:
Flemish Oud Bruin, with lactobacillus, fermented in Bordeaux and whisky barrels, and afterwards blended. Not very sour , the bordeaux barrels really take center stage. Supremely sophisticated woody aged malt flavor. Mild milky to a whisky dense caramel malt base. Nice blend which gives a distinct more "serious" malt base from the whisky compared to many other Flemish oud bruins, as a consequence the body is more full and smooth.

Sampled many many times on draft at pre-ZBF 2009 at Alvinne. This beer was definitely one of the stars of the fest. Not very sour as the bordeaux barrels really take center stage. Supremely sophisticated woody aged malt flavor. Extremely drinkable, smooth and the furthest thing from heavy or filling. I love the woodiness, especially from the Bordeaux barrels. I can’t believe I didn’t buy any to take home with me!

Tasting session at jbrus. Bottled. Dark red-brown coloured, small brown head. Lactobacillus aroma, malts, whisky notes. Again lactobacillus and whisky in flavour, a bit more leaning towards the whisky-notes, some toffee. A unique combination of flavours, sour ale and whisky, and yet so smooth and balanced that it’s still highly drinkable. Good job Menno!

From tap. Pours hazy deep orange to brown with a small dense and tan head. Sweet, milky and wooden to light alcohol note from the whisky. Caramelish and sweet impression. Mild milky to a whisky dense caramel malt base. Nice blend which gives a distinct more "serious" malt base form the whisky compared to many other flemish oud bruins, as a consequence the body is more full and smooth. Smooth wineous and malty finish. Nice one.

A Mes rate: draught at Alvinne Pre ZBF.
First beer of the day and thrust into my hand by Menno as soon as we walked in. Dark amber / copper colour with a good off white head. Good caramel malt base with hints of tarty Flemishness on top. Faint earthy notes and a hint of liquorice plus just a hint of citrus in the finish. Just the right amount of barrel. Hugely quaffable. Lovely. Thanks Menno.

Draught @ Pre-ZBF Alvinne. A dark amber, little hazy colored beer, with a nice foamy beige head. The aroma of soft fruity malts with some notes of whisky. The taste is dry, fruits like grapes/citrus. There is bitter with some wood. The aftertaste is a little bitter.

Bott 75cl @ brasserie420 Light brown reddish color, longlasting foam. Light acetic aroma, some sweet fruit to it. Fruity tastes, peach, apricot, mildly sweet. Nice straitforward aceticnes, but not in your face! A great interpretation of this stile!

Bottle, shared @ jbrus’s place, kindly donated by Molenbrouwer. Vinous, oaky, dusty, lactic aroma. Hints of cherry and clear notes of single malt whisky. Initially some milk chocolate in the flavor, but that is overpowered by a strong whisky flavor. Not optimally balanced, but this beer will probably age beautifully. Delicious!
