Surly Bird. From WBC. Pours a hazy unfiltered amber color. This must have been off a little as there was very little of what I would call BSA characteristics. Little or no fruity spiciness. Belgian Strongs should not be confused with any other brew but this thing could have been anything.

Reinaert Flemish Wild Ale. Bottle. Lots of crud at the bottom of the bottle, some of which migrated during pour and made mine a scuzzy amber with a medium sized head. Aromas are of sour apple with some honey notes and a touch of floral hops. Given the aroma and appearance, I was a little worried, but at first sip this is definitely OK. Flavor is a bit yeasty with a little bitter/sour kick that picks up appley notes from the aroma. Dough and honey come in too, and balance things out nicely. There is definitely some alcoholic warmth that comes out, but it is covered fairly well.

Rat Rider. 9-28-08. Pours bright gold into a snifter. Bright white head with excellent retention leaves spot spiders. Ah, same aroma as Spoon Whacker. Crisp, sweet and marshmallowy with a sharp bitter hop finish. I’ll say this one has another year before it becomes the next Spoon Whacker... Had another Spoon Whacker on 11-24-07 - kicked it up from the old score...this keeps getting better...9/4/10/4/19 Demon Fish. 05-16-07. Pours bright gold into a tulip. Fluffy eggwhite head leaves globs as it slowly recedes. Sharp aspirin and horseblanket aromas. Smooth, slick marshmallow and melon with a lasting bitter, sour, green olive finish. 8/4/7/4/17 = 4. The Legendary Cunning Fox Reinaert Flemish Wild ale. 4-10-07. Pours bright gold into a tulip. Bright white head slowly recedes to skim rim. Aspirin and bandaid aromas. Creamy and full with lasting brett flavors. Not as strong as others. 7/4/8/4/17 = 4. Spoon Whacker. 3-28-07 - aged 3 years. Bright piss yellow into a tulip. Fluffy bright white head leaves spider scum as it recedes. Band aid and sweet tapioca funk. Creamy rice pudding, vanilla, caramel and raw Italian cookie dough with a sour, lasting bittter alcohol finish. Like a birthday party. 8/4/9/4/18 = 4.3. Pinhead. Winter ’06. Bright gold into a tulip. Band aid aromas. Lasting bitter hop finish. Best of the 3 I’ve tried. 8/4/9/4/18 = 4.3. Surly Bird. Fall ’06. Same as Pig Nun -- with a little more bitter and less band-aid. 8/4/8/4/16 = 4. Pig Nun. 8/13/06. Pours hazy, gold into a tulip. Significant, fluffy white micro head. Bright sour yeast notes. Fizzy sour fruit and caramel with a lasting bitter band-aid finish. 7/4/7/4/16 = 3.8.

Slight sour taste, slight bitter finish. Very nice. I enjoy this style. Although the finish is a dry one. . . . . RERATE: 22 mar 08 ::750ml, golden hazy appearance. Beautiful cascading carbonation. Pinhead. Clear golden beer with a thick fluffy white head. Continuing spritzy effervescence. Beautiful aroma, pale malt, light honey, dust and a bit of leather as well. Soft Brettanomyces, some grape and light appley aromas as well. Flavour is decent, very peppery. Pale malt, leather, Brett, and some malic tartness. Herbal hop flavour on the back, assertive bitterness as well. Entirely too hot tasting though. A little warming is nice, but this is a bit too much. Some light citrus flavour as well as some peach and apple. On the second pour, I got some yeast in here, which helps mute the heat and add some bready body as well.

750ml corked cold bottle: Pale golden color with light alabaster head around the edges and some lacing within. Aroma of banana sweetness. Very fizzy on the tongue. Tastes bitter & sour that lingers on.
