It’s one of those Belgians that the head actually seems to grow rather than diss+ipate. Aroma of yeast and green apples - very nice! The flavor disappoints a bit. Some yeastiness and quite fruity, but not much more. An odd, sharp fruitiness hits the palate hard and right up front. The nice fizzy palate of a good percentage of Belgians is here, too. Good, but not great. DragonStout (1386), Pataskala, Ohio, USA

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jul 30, 2005 This is the Pig Nun bottle. Deep gold body with lots of carbonation. The aroma is rich gingerbread and some carrots. There is also cinnamon and raisins. Smells delicious. The taste is slightly spicy with black pepper and some dry white wine. There is a note of tobacco hiding in the aftertaste. Fairly dry, yet drinkable. Finishes clean and crisp. I imagine this is would smooth out deliciously with some aging. | 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jul 28, 2005 Corked bottle provided in trade a while back, many thanks to whomever it was:
Pours a hazy golden hue with a small but lastly frothy head and very good lace. The aroma has notes of watermelon, coconut, funky brett esters, bready malt, and a wonderful hint of mint. I dig it! The taste mostly follows suit with lots of malt character balanced out by nice fruity and neat barnyard yeast overtones. The finish is quite different that expected with a woody and earthy taste and a hint of a juniper berry character that seems almost Sahti like. The feel is bready and a bit heavy. As I drink this all I can think about is how vastly underrated this beer is. If you like off-the-wall Belgian Ales then you try this brew, Yummy! stubby (326), Santee, California, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jul 15, 2005 Pig nun bottle. Like a pilsener brewed with an English ale yeast, and about 10 % Belgian ale added later. Not much in the way of fruity or spicy flavors of most Belgian ales here. Better as it gets warm, with an odd earthy/buttery aroma coming out. Decent but nothing special. More hoppy than most Belgian ales. 5000 (2882), Hardened Liver, Washington, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jul 14, 2005 Bottle: Dull golden, hazy, large rocky white head, attractive lacing, nearly zero carbonation.   Sweet fruity aroma, slightly yeasty, very candyish on the nose.   Slight sourness on first sip, otherwise a sweet yeasy/bready flavor dominates.   Not as fruity on the tongue as it was on the nose.   Fairly good body and mouthfeel.   Sweet & Sour bready finish.   Much better than the Amber.   Wish I had the Grand Cru to try... damn.

Pours a hazy golden color with a fairly thick white head and great lacing. Funky, fruity aroma of pears, yeast and barnyard notes typical of a beer with Brettanomyces. Flavor was mildly tart, with the funky Brett flavors coming through. This was a fairly young bottle and would like to try again in a year or so.
Bouteille, Downtown Liquor, Boston, Juin 2005.
