Really funky aroma, lots of brett and sour apples. Taste is quite sweet, finish is off bitter and a little astringent. Finish gets more astringency. Tastes cheap. | 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 4/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Apr 30, 2005 Spoon Whacker. Attractive hazy peach juice in color. Light colored, well laced head. Extremely funky aroma, very inviting, with a light sour/tart aspect, light pepper, barnyard and full of fruits, such as green apples and pineapples. While the aroma is actually very impressive, the flavor is a major letdown. Cloyingly sweet malts (kind of malt liquorish) with grainy and metallic flavors. Not enjoyable (flavor wise) at all. But the aroma is very nice. Earlier Rating: 10/20/2004 Total Score: 3.7 Light Gold. Gentle aroma of apple cider, lemon, vanilla, honey and pure yeasty funk. Strange, unassertive brett character. A funky brew, almost Fantomesque in its yeast taste. Nice, tart, coating flavor, quite fruity, with notes of pineapple, apples, orange and lemon. Fizzy carbonation. A flavorful brew. relying on old notes, the last time I had this brew i rated as such. Poursa cloudy golden hue with a frothy white head that dies quick. Aromas of apples, hints of strawberries, and a light murkiness. Mouthfeel is fluffy and similar to a trippel. Minty, light deus-like bitterness with lavender/florar flavors. Brettanomyces at there best with a pleasant finish. egajdzis (3645), Spring Mount, Pennsylvania, USA

Poured a golden color with a small white head that left nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of brett, apples, and light caramel as well. Taste of yeast, pear, apples, and light alcohol. Very wild tasting. hotstuff (3183), Indiana, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Apr 23, 2005 Bottle. Large off-white head that was mostly lasting, excellent lacing, fine-small sized bubbles, carbonated, slightly hazy, and a butterscotch hue. Malty, spicy and some clove notes in the aroma. Sweet, malty, spicy and vinuous tasting. Fairly smooth and also slightly tingly palate. Medium body. Quite enjoyable and quaffable IMO. giarcsr (103), Carlsbad, California, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Apr 19, 2005 This is an interesting beer. It isn’t my bag buy I’ll rate by the style. Aroma is very barnlike, and horsey smelling. Mostly due to the Bretanomycest and Sacchromyces, which this is a good example of. Appearanc is light yellowish and hazy, which again has to do with the yeast selection for this beer, which from my experience with Brett is right on. Flavor is very sour and slightly fruity, pineapple tasting mostly. This is a lot like Russian River Sanctification or Pizza Port’s Mo Betta Bretta. Not my cup of tea, but an interesting beer none the less. marcus (1904), Sacramento, California, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Apr 18, 2005 This bottle had a Pig Nun label. The golden colored ale poured with a short white head, eliciting a malty aroma. The flavor, too, is quite malty and a bit sour. There is an initial garbage-like gueuze flavor that settles down after a few sips and becomes more satisfying. I have never tasted anything quite like this, but I would try it again. Clear, golden color, fuzzy white head above...lovely, really...
Sourness greets the nose at first, citric fruits, and well-worn socks...yeah, this is funky! Alcohol peeks in a bit too early...I haven’t even tasted it, yet...it feels terribly strong....(yet it’s "only" 9%)
Taste: big, fat sour...almost hard to take, unless you’re into that stuff...and some of you are....you freaks...ahem. (who am I to talk?)
yeah, this is a sour mo’fo...but not too bad, some tasty fruits, peach and apricot, mmm...very tangy, loads of citrus, huge sour on the palate, balanced by a judicious addition of sweet...
...I couldn’t finish this bottle in one sitting, and capped it until the next day, where it’s lost no carbonation and no flavor, at least not in the appearance or aroma. One weird ale, unique, but brimming with flavor and rather refreshing, if sour is your thing. As for me, the more I drink, the more I admire it. Glad I got an extra bottle, for saving.
If I were a gueueze geek, I’d give this sky-high ratings. I’m not, so there you go, but damn, this is a fine creation. I have to look out for more from these guys...anyone seen any Rat Riders around?
(paid $10.49 at Cellar’s, Roseville...i had to go out of my way for this one, being a fan of Belgian ales, and Bosch. Love the PigNun, but her inkwell holder is really creepy!)
