pours a honey/amber color with a medium creamy white head...decent lacing and retention. aroma has significant funk...definitely sour...touch of leather too. flavor is more leathery than the aroma with definite funk! lightly sour with hints of alcohol...warming. mouthfeel is crisp and very lively with a funky dry finish that is also warming. outstanding!

Pours cloudy dark golden color with white head. Aromas of brett funk and bread dough. Sweet and doughy with a hefty dose of brett. Medium body with lively carbonation and a dry finish. Good stuff.

Pours a murky golden orange with a small bubbly white head that recedes to a soapy collar and leaves very little lacing. Aroma is big with lots of sweet and tart light fruits, green apples and pears especially. There is also some lemony sourness and, needless to say, quite a bit of barnyard funk with some earthy, almost leathery character. The taste is very, very funky up front with the brett really dominating initially. There is some underlying doughy malt and lemon zest with lots of sour apple sweetness. Plenty of fruity esters and even a bit of Belgian yeast spiciness before the big dry funky finish. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with strong carbonation and dry and wine-like in the finish. This is an excellent beer with a ton of complexity and really shows what brett can do in the hands of master brewers. Well done all the way around.

Opaque orange with minimal white head. Aroma is bretty with apple, pineapple, and caramel with spicy ginger notes. Taste is the same, with fermented red apple, horseblanket, and tannic, peppery notes in the finish. $15/750ml

The Dan Journal #305. Tasted 9/27/09. 750ml bottle. Hazy with a honey golden hue. Layer of lacing head. Aromas of cranberries and raspberries. Total Brett citrus vinegar note. Full bodied with a rather pronounced Brett flavor. Tart and tangy. Solid.

750 bottle. Sampled next to the Signature ale. Wow, my notes have this rated very highly... Pours a slightly cloudy glowing golden with a small white froth. Aroma is funky and a bit cheesy, touch of smoke? like in a gouda? I dont know... Flavor is funky with some sharp hard cheese notes, a touch tangy. Medium bodied with fine but sharp sizzling carbonation. Would love to try this again and get some proper notes.

Bouteille de 750 ml, avec bouchon de liège, partagée lors d’une dégustation Ratebeer Montréal chez MartinT. Arôme: Odeur d’agrumes et de levures avec une pointe de pommes. Apparence: La couleur est orange voilée. Présence d’un mince col mousseux et d’une fine dentelle sur le verre. Saveur: Goût de levures avec une pointe de pommes légèrement sûrettes. Durée moyenne de l’arrière goût. Palette: Le corps est moyen avec une texture légèrement huileuse. Moyenne effervescence en bouche. Arrière goût légèrement sec. (Rating #2752)

This looks like apricot nectar in the glass. It’s a dark golden color with burnt-orange tints, and a good amount of haziness. The head of eggshell-colored foam is just over two-fingers thick, from an easy to medium pour. It looks dense and creamy. The retention is very good, eventually leaving a thin surface covering with an island of thick foam in the center of the surface. Lacing is just shy of curtain-like and very sticky. When I popped the cork, I was immediately hit with notes of fresh, golden pineapple. It has now had a few minutes to ’breathe’. Loads of orchard fruits are here now and the pineapple, while still here, has taken a spot in the background. Good notes of apples, pears, peaches and nectarines, among others. The brettanomyces is present, though not dominant. A very nice barnyard funk is here. There is a touch of tanginess to the nose. Mild presence of bananas. The taste follows the nose, somewhat, with mostly the same fruit notes. These are confined to the interior of the tongue, though. The edges of the tongue get a sharp tanginess, which is really quite nice, and brings balance to the fruitiness of it all. There is a touch of caramel sweetness, down below the surface and the whole thing is covered with mild notes of that funky barnyard. This has a medium-to-full body, with a nice, medium, almost heavy, level of carbonation. Very smooth, with a medium level of creaminess, which makes this feel very nice, indeed. While I have no problem drinking this bottle, it’s not one that I’d want to drink everyday. for an ’occasion’ beer though, this is really good.
