Commercial Description:
A strong blonde ale of about 8.5% alc. by volume that claims vaguely to be an “abbey” beer, Guldenberg bears no resemblance whatsoever to any Tripel you may have sampled, except in color perhaps. It is very hoppy and malty (though not quite as assertive as De Ranke’s XX Bitter). Made in small batches only on the weekends, they are quickly gaining a reputation as the best specialty beers of Belgium.

draught at Gallows Bird Espoo 300408 Color:hazy dark yellow nice lace Taste: bit sweet and more sourness dash of coriander nicely in balance. I can’t taste high alcohol level at all. Bit dangerous

Draught at Pikkulintu, Helsinki. Hazy golden color with thick creamy head. Dry hops, exotic fruits and phenols in the aroma. Sweetish flavor with honey, fairly sharp phenols, grapefruity dry hops, raspberry and firm bitterness. Fairly pleasant, but phenols are too sharp. Much hoppier on draught than from bottle.

Bottle, from Noel Cuveliers, Abele, also at Dickies’ Grillhouse in Brugge. (Just Traci and me left in the place, chatting with the owner. Very cool.) Light orange pour with just a little haze, lots of glass-coating coarse white head. The aroma is just exactly the smell of a fresh-cut field of alfalfa hay. Lavender sweet flavor with a touch of herbal bitterness, dry finish with carbonation that gives the impression of creaminess. Not quite as dramatic as the XX Bitter, but a very fine, well-crafted beer.

Bottle. Pours a cloudy orange with a thick white head. The aroma is yeast and apricot. The taste is also a fairly dry, yeasty, and fruity flavor with some apricot. Not a bad beer at all. A soft palate and fairly dry. Good.

Aroma has yeast and citrus. Flavour has spices and fruits. Alcohol makes a glowing glow. Nice beer.

Thick cloudy yellow orange with a soapy white head. Smell is floral and has some hints of grass in there. A sweet lemon flavor that is slightly watery but has that nice tart bite to it in the finish.

Huge white head on a hazy straw appearance. Nose hit by a weak peppery, apple, pear nose. Yeasty. Little flowery. Very dry toward a bitter end.

Tap at Blind Tiger. Pours with a nice firm white head. Spicy banana esters in the nose, warm muddy malts. A bit of pudding. Flavor is very spicy up front, mild malts in the middle, a touch boozy in the finish.
