Commercial Description:
A strong blonde ale of about 8.5% alc. by volume that claims vaguely to be an “abbey” beer, Guldenberg bears no resemblance whatsoever to any Tripel you may have sampled, except in color perhaps. It is very hoppy and malty (though not quite as assertive as De Ranke’s XX Bitter). Made in small batches only on the weekends, they are quickly gaining a reputation as the best specialty beers of Belgium.

Bottle. Pours slightly hazy golden orange with a decent white head that lasts fairly well and leaves a bit of lace. Aroma is of yeast, honey, pepper and clove with a hint of caramel. Flavour has a nice balance between sweet and bitter and pretty much mirrors the aroma. Medium body with a reasonably long finish, with the bitterness coming out more. This is a good beer, although it doesn’t really stand out in any particular way, it’s pleasant and very easy to drink.

Bottle. Pours a nice golden color with a fluffy white head. Aroma is yeasty, bready, and sweet malts. Notes of citrus, dark fruit, caramel, and spices come out. On the palate, it is rather light and refreshing. The flavor brings out a pilsner type quality and it finishes with a small amount of dryness and a little bit of hops. Very balanced.

2009 Bottle - Pours hazy tan with a frothy white head...aroma is yeasty and fruity, straw, with a floral hop finish...flavour is similar, doughy, fruity, malt that is neither dry or sweet, the same belgian hop taste that I can only describe as burnt plastic...lingering malt and bitterness, still pretty tasty...

Bottled 33cl. Appearance: It pours a surprisingly pale hazy golden beer with a smallish, nicely remaining white head which leaves a pretty lace. Aroma: Strong hoppy nose with sweat, grapefruit, faint horse blanket, coconut, gooseberry, melon, cardamom, yeast and blood orange showing up. Very fruity, deeply inviting and impressive. Flavor and palate: Complex. Fantastic hop profile. Subtle carbonation. Sweet. White bread and melon sneaking in. Nicely peppery on the swallow. Long sweet yeasty finish which is reminiscent of black pepper and cardamom. Overall impression: A wonderful beer.

Unfiltered beer from Belgium. I bought a 75cl bootle in "Bieres Cultes" in Paris. Let’s talk about the beer : White head, small particules in the body. Very hoppy and malty. A long duration (very long.. :)
