Commercial Description:
A strong blonde ale of about 8.5% alc. by volume that claims vaguely to be an “abbey” beer, Guldenberg bears no resemblance whatsoever to any Tripel you may have sampled, except in color perhaps. It is very hoppy and malty (though not quite as assertive as De Ranke’s XX Bitter). Made in small batches only on the weekends, they are quickly gaining a reputation as the best specialty beers of Belgium.

Bottle at the Copenhagen Beer Festival 2007. Golden with a white head. Trepel-like, but having a more hoppier taste. Smoth and round, strong in alcohol.

75 cl bottle. Cloudy orange with a huge white head, leaving nice lacing. Spicy, fruity and herbal hops aroma as well as sweet malts. Herbal flavours together with sweet malts. Special.

Pours a transparent dark golden bronze with a frothy, wispy-lacing cream-colored head. Aroma of sweet candi sugar and caramel malt with a touch of light fruity esters, some floral earthiness, and bready yeast. Body starts somewhat thin and airy with lots of sweet malt sugars and subtle light fruity complexity. Finishes clean, hiding the alcohol well. A decent Belgian strong ale.

Bottle courtesy of thewolf: Poured a light cloudy golden color ale with a huge foamy head with great retention and lacing. Aroma of Brett is dominating with some Belgian malt and ester notes. Taste is also dominated by sour notes from what appears to be Brett as well as a subtle spices mix and a refreshing slightly hoppy ending. Body is quite full with no noticeable filtration and alcohol was not discernable. Another great beer from De Ranke and I would wish they would distribute more widely.

Bottle: Poured a dark cloudy orangy color ale with a huge head with perfect retention. Aroma is quite funky with the yeast signature readily noticeable. Carbonation is good and body is quite full. Taste is dominated by the yeast at the beginning and then some spices, which are hard to distinguish with a funky finish. Another fine funky gem from de Ranke.

Bottle. Pours a somewhat hazy amber color with a thin head. Aroma is fruity, malty and surprisingly good amount of hops. Taste is similar - good bit of hops, malts and fruits. Medium bodied. I had not expectations of this beer and was very pleased. Very tasty and drinkable!

Bottle. Clear golden colour with orange hue. Mostly lasting white head. Malt and fruitesters in the rather powerfull aroma. Slightly sweet malt and great hoppyness in the flavor. Dried fruits as well. Dry and a bit alcoholic in the long finish.

An odd beer. Hazy (unfiltered) with a thin head. Aroma is the best feature of this beer: honey, flowers...like an alpine meadow in a sunny day. Flavor: graham crackers, honey, ice tea, with a definite sourness. Finish was light and watery.
