Commercial Description:
A strong blonde ale of about 8.5% alc. by volume that claims vaguely to be an “abbey” beer, Guldenberg bears no resemblance whatsoever to any Tripel you may have sampled, except in color perhaps. It is very hoppy and malty (though not quite as assertive as De Ranke’s XX Bitter). Made in small batches only on the weekends, they are quickly gaining a reputation as the best specialty beers of Belgium.

Golden with a nice head and a good lace. The aroma is very floral and fruity in an almost perfumed way. the mouth feel is rather full. The flavour is sweetish with notes of flower and it’s quite citrussy, actually more like grapefruit. In the finish I also find light notes of caramel.

Pours a hazy deep amber with a creamy, dense white head. Aroma of apples and spice. Taste is quite unexpected! Flavor is tea-like, with delicate hops flavor and bitterness, a like pepper-like kick, and a subdued maltiness in the background. Hop bitterness lingers a bit along with a powerful floral aroma that reminds me of stepping into a florist shop. Hops bitterness is on the level of a mild IPA, including the slight soapy flavor. Carbonation is just right-- enough to add some levity but not to distract. This beer is perfectly balanced. I suspect that this would pair very well with food, esp. red meat. Will drink again.

Pours gold with a nice well maintained white head. Smells of lemons, wildflowers, pepper, hay, some splashes of nuttiness. Tastes of hay, nuts, spices, and perfumy. Great spicy finish and a tingly palate make this a great beer.

Opaque dark gold, no lasting head, faint aroma of oranges, honey. Touch of sweetness melts into powerful hops throughout, including a lastingly bitter finish. Nice, full body abd refreshing. Liked this beer much more on the second go-round.

Hazy golden, fierce carbonation, great off-white rocky persistent head. Floral, hoppy aroma. Sweet, honey-like malty notes in the background. Taste starts out nicely hoppy, and finishes with a complex malt profile. Overall very dry, but well balanced. Good mouthfeel, quite substantial, with surprisingly little carbonation. Excellent.
