Commercial Description:
A strong blonde ale of about 8.5% alc. by volume that claims vaguely to be an “abbey” beer, Guldenberg bears no resemblance whatsoever to any Tripel you may have sampled, except in color perhaps. It is very hoppy and malty (though not quite as assertive as De Ranke’s XX Bitter). Made in small batches only on the weekends, they are quickly gaining a reputation as the best specialty beers of Belgium.

Draught. Nice creamy foam. Moisty taste, fizzy in the nose. Very hoppy, also in the long end.

Bottle: Hazy, amber coloured, small foamy layer; the aroma is a robust combination of a sweet fruitiness (oranges) and a distinctive peppery hoppiness; very strong sweet-bitter flavour, medium-bodied; orangey-fruity sweetish finish with an increasing aromatic hoppiness in the aftertaste; all in all a bit warming: A spicy, outstanding, well balanced Abdijbier with very pleasant hops..............

12oz bottle. Poured a murky garnet with a small head that faded slowly. Aromas of candy sugar, beets, orange, yeast, and some alcohol. Fairly hoppy mouthfeel with some raspberry notes.

Bottled. Golden coloured. Unclear. Fluffy off white head. This is a typical belgian ale. Loads of yeast, friuts, sweetness and a light sour grapish touch. Both in flavour and aroma. Is quite dry. Medium bodied. The grape and fruit thing last all through the beer until the end. Very easy to drink. Has some light alcoholwarmth on the lips in the end.

Bottled: Golden coloured. Hazy. Off white dense head. Sweetness, yeast, spice and fruit in the aroma. Not as heavy as I like it, but still good. Flavour is on the mild side as well. Distinct alcohol, yeast and fruity and a slightly touch of spice lying under it all. Quite smooth and easy to drink. Is medium bodied and ends on a fruity yeast note. Alcohol difficult to detect.

Bottle 33 cl. Pours hazy golden with a thick head. Aroma malty, sweet and clear alcohol presence. Once in the mouth, the sweetness is quite well balanced with a rich bitterness and hop flavour.
