Commercial Description:
A strong blonde ale of about 8.5% alc. by volume that claims vaguely to be an “abbey” beer, Guldenberg bears no resemblance whatsoever to any Tripel you may have sampled, except in color perhaps. It is very hoppy and malty (though not quite as assertive as De Ranke’s XX Bitter). Made in small batches only on the weekends, they are quickly gaining a reputation as the best specialty beers of Belgium.

Gold blond coloured, with a light hazy touch and a small white head. Sweet hoppy aroma, with a little peppery touch. Full palate, light bitter finish, somewhat more dry hoppy near the end. very good one.

Best before 7/2010. Pours a hazy amber into a tulip. Fluffy micro head leaves sheet lacing as it recedes. Lemon aromas. Upfront caramel with a bitter sour finish.

I drank this together with the Guldenberg, my notes are a bit like a comparison between the two. Looks the same; The nose is quite a bit fresher, same malty notes, same aromas of fresh apple and pear, but in this one a huge amount of freshly cut grass and green asparagus backs it up; The bodies are very similar, but this one is again a bit fresher, it is also a bit more bitter and a bit more acidy, this one is not as flat as the Guldenberg, but still to flat though; They finishes very similar, but this one again a bit fresher: walnut peel (green), peel of fresh young apples, is a little more bitter as well. (The Guldenberg is from Nov. 2005 and the Vinens Verden – version from Marts 2006)

Dark golden hazy body, with a huge white head; Very pleasant super balanced soft nose of green fruits: ripe apples and in particular pear, the alcohol gives a slight warmth, a little fresh acidity gives freshness as notes of ripe grapefruit; Quite flat body, balanced with lots of fill; It finishes long, with a very pleasant bitterness appearing after some time, aromas becomes warmer with different malts and a lemony acidy freshness.

Bottle sampled with Stegosaurus. Pours orange with an off-white head. Aroma of citrus, spices, and fruit. The flavor is sweet, citrusy, fruit, and very smooth. Great beer.

A hazy orange beer with only a rim of white head. The aroma is very lightly malty and hoppy. The flavor is very sweet with some notes of fruits and a bit of hop character. The hop character is not nearly as dominant as in other "green" hopped beers I’ve tried, but they where English, so a totally different style, this ofcourse makes a difference. I think this is just a bit better than the Guldenberg, but I’m not blown away by it.

The aroma is sweet malty and hoppy. The color is orange and it has a dense white head. The flavor is very malty sweet - too sweet for my taste and with no bitterness to give it balance. For me this is an average Belgian Strong ale.

Pours light golden brown and hazy with a thin, mostly receding off-white head. Aroma of sweet, sticky alefruits: plum, bubble gum, caramel, and toffee. Tastes of sweet caramel, apple, spice, and sticky alefruits. Mouthfeel is medium bodied and slightly sticky with moderate carbonation.
