Commercial Description:
A strong blonde ale of about 8.5% alc. by volume that claims vaguely to be an “abbey” beer, Guldenberg bears no resemblance whatsoever to any Tripel you may have sampled, except in color perhaps. It is very hoppy and malty (though not quite as assertive as De Ranke’s XX Bitter). Made in small batches only on the weekends, they are quickly gaining a reputation as the best specialty beers of Belgium.

A fairly light beer; surprisingly considering it costs $12 for a 75 cl. Light hops in the aroma. Fairly earthy aroma and flavor, dirt, salt, and light hops; some flowers. Not bad at all, and it hides its high abv well.

This is De Ranke’s Guldenberg made for Vinens Verden! Great Tripel! Golden with fine white head. Aroma and taste of yeast/fruit & hops. Finish is little bitter and lasting. Great!

From the same brewery as XX Bitter, De Ranke. A Belgium Tripel. Golden/orange with white head. An allround tripel- not to spicy for beginners and not too boring for "advanced tasters". Like the quality of a good Belgium beer the finish lasts and is very comftable. A good place to start your Belgish adventure!

Bottle from Super Saver. Hazy deep gold look with fluffy, huge, reappearing 3-finger white head. Aroma of citrus, fruit, hops, florals, spice. Tastes floral and citrusy, with hops and spicy florals at mid-palate. Stays fairly sweet throughout, with some funky notes in the finish.

(Thanks to Johnny) 33 cl bottle. Yeast at the bottom. Cloudy golden colour with a nice creamy head. Fresh aroma of grapefuit, grass, yeast and some sweetness. Flavour of maltness, fruitness, yeast and quite hoppy, ends up bitter.

Pours cloudy orange/ amber with a big head that dissipates pretty quickly. Aroma is citrus, a bit of hops and spice. Flavor is of spice, citrus and a bready yeast presence. Hop and alcohol flavors are present, but not pronounced. Leaves a pleasant bready flavor in the mouth.

Poured a golden to amber color with a nice initial head with good retention. Lacing was solid but typical for a Belgian. Aroma was of yeast, coriander, pepper, and light citrus. Tangerines came out mid-glass. The flavor was citrus (slight sour), yeast, coriander and other spices, pepper, tangerines, and a minty note. Mouthfeel was moderate and amply carbonated. This came across like a saison and was darned enjoyable in the summer on vacation!
