Commercial Description:
A strong blonde ale of about 8.5% alc. by volume that claims vaguely to be an “abbey” beer, Guldenberg bears no resemblance whatsoever to any Tripel you may have sampled, except in color perhaps. It is very hoppy and malty (though not quite as assertive as De Ranke’s XX Bitter). Made in small batches only on the weekends, they are quickly gaining a reputation as the best specialty beers of Belgium.

pours orangish-yellow color with a nice white head. foamed up a bit because some dirty hippie stole our corkscrew and we had to use an i-hook thingamajig. aroma of yeast, funk, and citrus. taste is unbelievably good and palate makes me want more. does de ranke produce a bad brew? i think not.

One strange brew, but damn delicious. Clearly a multi-dimensional yeast is used, because there is some serious funk in here. Some bretta, etc. It’s perfectly tart, very fruity and leaves my mouth wanting more and more.

Hazy golden ale with a thick off white head. Very herbaceous hops aroma, almos marijuana like, resinous in nature. Medium sweet malt with stron floral hops, almost c-hops, with nice light citrus notes. Nice balanced beer, with medum body, and light alcohol finish. Bottle at t the ’t Brugs Beertje, May 2 2005.

Orange color with a beautiful big fluffy and sticky white head. Lively carbonation. Nice yeast and tangerine nose with a lot of koriander. Medium grape and tangerine taste - flowery.

Yeasty nose, beautiful orange-gold color with a luscious spongy head that sticks around. Sweet orange flavored malt with vanilla undertones. Corriander and pepper spiciness. Bitter grassy end with a complex hop blend. Stingy bitter. Mediumbody, gritty mouth feel. Bold beer, fairly complex. Give it a chance - it gets better as it warms.

Fermented fruit aroma like I usually detect from this style. Hazy Yellow body color with white head. Flavor was more like a moderate bodied brandy. Decent brew. Thanks Degarth.

Hazy pale yellow, thick white head with great lacing. Exotic fruits nose. Full bodied fruity flavour, somewhat yeasty and acidic with some notes of vanilla.
