This one is a cloudy washed out brown with a huge fluffy head. Spicy fore with a bubble gum/sugar mid taste that finishes with a lavender/floral finish. Fun to drink and interesting flavor palate. Thanks to Firemoose for this fine specimen. Sammy (4062), Toronto, Ontario, Canada

Poured an off gold with a white foamy head, lively in the glass. Taste was hoppy and a bit bitter with just a bit of sweetness then back to the bite. Palate was nicely bodied, finish was long tailed. Overall I really liked this as my first from de Ranke would entice me to try more of their stuff. diabel (1372), Aarschot, Belgium
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 3/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jul 18, 2005 Bottle Off-white, creamy head, which diminishes totally. Spare lace. Clear amber body. Nice complex aroma of hops (flowers) and hints of caramel. Lightly sweet, moderately bitter initial flavour. Lightly sweet, heavily bitter finish. Medium to fully bodied. Lively carbonation. This one is a complex, bitter typical De Ranke-ale, but not as bitter as the XX Bitter. marcus (1902), Sacramento, California, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jul 18, 2005 This golden/orange ale poured with a huge white head. Fortunately, I used tulip glasses. There was a sweet malty aroma and a correspondingly sweet and malty initial taste with a more bitter finish. The spices were quite noticeable and tasted like orange peel. This was an interesting brew that would likely benefit from a few years of aging. chriso (4852), London, Greater London, England

Candy sugar, chocolate, dog food and a bit of orange peel in the nose. Starts mildly sweet, relatively flat mouth, oranges, chocolate and some candy sugar. Light dry orangey finish. Kind of reminds me of a want to be Orval.
