Commercial Description:
A strong blonde ale of about 8.5% alc. by volume that claims vaguely to be an “abbey” beer, Guldenberg bears no resemblance whatsoever to any Tripel you may have sampled, except in color perhaps. It is very hoppy and malty (though not quite as assertive as De Ranke’s XX Bitter). Made in small batches only on the weekends, they are quickly gaining a reputation as the best specialty beers of Belgium.

bottle, pours orange, medium white head, good lacing. Aroma is malty and citris hops. Flavors are sweet malt, orange, candy sugar, and bitter hops in the finish. Slight alcohol burn in the finish. This is good, but a little too sweet for me.

33cl bottle. Clear straw color with medium white head. Aroma is nice full spiceiness, dry, big yeast. Flavor is sweeter lemon, yeast, some alc, candy sugar, orange, hops, some bitterness, flowery, a little spice. Medium body with creaminess and a light crispiness. This is one of the better none sour beers i’ve had in Belgium

Pours a clear rich golden with some fine bubbles and a dense white creamy frothy head. Sweet aroma, malty, touch of apple, floral hop spiciness. Flavor follows aroma, balanced pale malty sweetness and floral hops, hint of honey/confection sugar sweetness. Medium bitterness. Its quite crisp for something this high in alcohol without the cloying sweetness found in similar beers. Easy drinking, medium/light bodied, with larger abundant fizzy carbonation, clean mouthful, no stickiness, maybe a tad too watery. Very easy drinking straightforward Belgian ale.

In short: A hoppy fruity Belgian blonde ale. Tasty yet smooth. Kick-ass 8.5% “session” beer.
How: Bottle 750ml (paper-wrapping, no-label). Consumed when approximately 6 months of age.
The look: Cloudy yellow blonde body topped by a large white head with very good retention
In long: Nose of citric and grassy hops with some light piney notes. Body mixes hay-ish maltiness, doughy yeast, fresh honey, pears and white grapes to create a soft but full mouthfeel. Moderately sweet. Good amount of hops that goes beyond the typical dry grassy hops found in most strong Belgian blonde ales. The finish is as citric as it is dry with only a mild-medium bitterness. Another one of those hoppy Belgian blonde ales that feels like fruity unfiltered Bohemian Pilsner on steroids. An acquired taste, I love that stuff. This is exactly the type of beer I really like, the type that is really good.

Bottle shared by Tmoney99. Pours a slightly hazy orange amber color with a medium sized disappearing white head. The aroma was fruity (peach, fig, apple), yeast, alcohol, bready, with moderate sweetness. The flavor is again fruity, yeast, bread, cork?, alcohol, pale malt, with moderate sweetness. Medium bodied.

Clear amber coloured body with orange highlights and a thinnish off-white head. Aroma of curacao, figs, sugar, wheat, yeast and nice fruits-very strong, very sweet and very alcoholic! Medium-bodied; Effervescent taste with pit fruits and apricots up front, fading to more of a maltiness and sweetness later on. Aftertaste shows some bitterness, but mostly alcohol and sweetness. Overall, a nice strong Belgie with good sugars and flavours. Couldn’t find this in Washington, so I bought it in Upstate New York of all places! I sampled this 33 cL bottle purchased at K&E Discount Beverage in New Paltz, New York on 15 July 2006 on the Eastern Shore of Virginia.

Draught at TJs: Aroma of apples and pale malts. Poured gold/yellow/amber in color with a medium-sized, creamy, white head that lasted throughout. Clear. Lightly sparkling. Excellent lacing. Flavor was lightly sweet. Tastes of pale malts, yeast, slight bubblegum, apples, and alcohol. Light to medium body. Thin texture. Average carbonation. Sweet malty finish. Not impressed.
