Commercial Description:
A strong blonde ale of about 8.5% alc. by volume that claims vaguely to be an “abbey” beer, Guldenberg bears no resemblance whatsoever to any Tripel you may have sampled, except in color perhaps. It is very hoppy and malty (though not quite as assertive as De Ranke’s XX Bitter). Made in small batches only on the weekends, they are quickly gaining a reputation as the best specialty beers of Belgium.

A clear golden colored beer, with a thick foamy head. The aroma of fruits, malts with hops. Some flowers in the back. The taste is nice bitter, with fruits like citrus. Hints of liquorice juice. Fresh malty flavor. The aftertaste is nicely bitter.

Cloudy straw coloured body with decent head that just hung around. Malty nose at first then notes of yeast. A little more spice in the taste than the nose, good body and length of finish.

A small step below the XX Bitter, this one is clean and dry, nicely hopped, with very light spices in the background.

Bright bubbly gold. Spicy nose. Spicy alcoholic taste. Cork cap and top of bottle covered in gross yellow/brown sludge. Cork about to break apart. A little bit underwhelming as far as these belgian blond types go.

Bottle. Pours an orange body with a light white head 1 finger thick. A light citrus fruit and grassy. Sweet malty with a noticable warming. Spicy pepper and yeast. Good brew.

Flaske. Orange uigennemsigtig øl. Med abdij stående udenpå flasken er det tydeligvis et forsøg på en trippel. Et vellykket forsøg I might add. Udmærket frugt i duften men en kende for sød til min smag, og selvom der står at den skal være tør, er den det desværre ikke, hvilket ellers ville have gjort det til en superøl. Men fin fin og bestemt værd at drikke.

On tap at Novare Res. Oh yeah, this is what i’m talking about! Golden color, light head, but what a flavor this packs in. Totally surprised by this one! It’s hoppy, bitter and blonde, with a decent alcohol content for a blonde.

Pours a somewhat hazy amber color with a thin head. Aroma is fruity, malty and surprisingly fresh. Sweet flavour, light alcohol and citrus with a slightly warming finish.
