Commercial Description:
A strong blonde ale of about 8.5% alc. by volume that claims vaguely to be an “abbey” beer, Guldenberg bears no resemblance whatsoever to any Tripel you may have sampled, except in color perhaps. It is very hoppy and malty (though not quite as assertive as De Ranke’s XX Bitter). Made in small batches only on the weekends, they are quickly gaining a reputation as the best specialty beers of Belgium.

11.2 oz. Pours a deep orange with a nice off-white head. Decent aroma. A bit sweet, with tastes of plum, raisins, apricots... a bit of hay and honey and a nicely balanced suite of spices. Nice mouthfeel and a surprisingly dry finish. Way better than I expected, and at 8.5%, it definitely packs a punch although the alcohol is well hidden. Good stuff!

Medium white head does not last. Hazyish golden body. Fruity sharpish peppery aroma with mango tea aroma. Intense dry-sweet peppery fruity taste with chalky mango notes. Fizzy mouthfeel. Dry sharp wooden fruity aftertaste. Not bad. (0.1l taster bottled at EBF ’08.)

33 cl bottle. Poured a dark amber color. Very malty and very sweet nose. Lots of carbonation, and a very sweet taste. Flavor is dominated by honey and malt, with a nice bitter finish.

Golden colored beer with a lasting white head. Hoppy aroma with notes of fruitiness. Flavor is more spicy ending with a nice hop bitterness. I like this beer a lot.

On tap @ redlight redlight. Golden with a fluffy head that fades fast. On the nose, floral, light spicy hops, yeasty and indistinct fruits. Sweet with spicy/earthy hops fruity. A mellow bitter finish, a little dry. Light to medium mouthfeel. No hints of the 8.5% here. Quite good.

I love this beer, it’s one of my favorite Belgians. The color is beautiful glowing amber. The nose is enchanting, fruity and almost honeylike. Flavours abundantly fruity, with impressions of sour apples, sweet pears and juicy peaches. There’s sourness and sweetness in there, and yet there’s also the spicy bitter touch of the hops. The alcohol is well masked, there’s no burn at all. With its pleasantly tickly bubbles, and perfect mouthfeel, this beer is just heavenly.

Bottle poured a hazy golden yellow with a lasting white head. Aromas of straw, light citrus and light spice. Palate was medium bodied and crisp with a smooth lightly dry finish. Flavors of straw, apple, pear and light spice with a smooth dry lingering bittrer finish.
