Commercial Description:
Kriek de Rank is real Belgian sour ale fermented with cherries and then blended with real lambic. It is unfiltered and unpasterized. The de Rank brewery was founded by two good friends; Nino Bacelle & Guido Devose. To them, brewing is a weekend hobby, not an occupation. For a few hours every week they make small batches of what many consider the best specialty beers. Their beers are robust and flavorful. They use the best Hallertau and brewer’s Gold varieties of hops.

3-2-08 bottle shared at tasting thanks to the super duper Miketd!!!
Red grapefruit color with no real head. nice sweet balanced flavor of grapefruit and maybe honey. Smell is big bubble gum. Ruby red grapefruit through and through. One of the best Fruit beers I’ve had - not normally a style I like at all and this one was really enjoyable. Miketd rocks!

ZBF2008: From bottle. Pours hazy red with a lacing pink head. Dry cherry aroma, mild sulphorish note. Medium dry flavour. Light woody and mild sulphorish flavour to a dry cherry flavour. Shows a short initial sweetness which goes into a slight citric/acidic dryness. Ends with a lingering dry flavour of cherries.

Sampled at ZBF 2008. Beautiful, deep red with a small, firm white/pinkish head. Woody aroma with some fruitiness. Spicy flavour with pleasant notes of cherries.

bottle shared at tasting courtesy of Miketd. Thanks for this one!
Pours an attractive bright cranberry color with a small pinkish white head. Smell is very lightly funky, but more emphasis on a woodsy tart cherry aroma. Taste is quite nice with the obvious sour cherry flavors, tart pink grapefruit and almost a pink bubblegum like quality about it as well, at times. Nicely tart, but not overly dry either, and pretty well balanced. Bitter, tart, grapefruity and cherry flavors made this very nice and drinkable.

From a 75 cl bottle at Zythos beer festival 2008. Hazy ruby with a pink head, very beautiful to watch. Cidery aroma with some grapefruit and wood, and a light hint of fresh cherries. Medium bodied, dry with a firm acidity.

Nov. 2006 - Pour was dark murky red with medium head and some lacing. Strong aroma of sour cherries. Flavor was sour, sour cherries with a hit of "horseblanket" (or whatever you call that lambic funk) that puckered my face in the end. I’m still a lambic babe, but this wasn’t half bad.

Pours a nice deep ruby red. A nice aromatic tart cherry nose with a good kick of earth barnyard funk. Nice tart cherry and green apple on the palate that finishes with a nice earthy punch.

Bottle (75cl, bought at Dranken Geers):Reddish-amber coloured, cloudy, small off-white layer, fresh tannic-fruity nose with distinctive cellary traces (lambic, gueuze); full dry sourish flavour with a discreet remaining sweetness, medium bodied; lingering, lingering and lingering dry fruity finish with a light hoppiness in the aftertaste. A perfect thirst-quencher...........
