Commercial Description:
Kriek de Rank is real Belgian sour ale fermented with cherries and then blended with real lambic. It is unfiltered and unpasterized. The de Rank brewery was founded by two good friends; Nino Bacelle & Guido Devose. To them, brewing is a weekend hobby, not an occupation. For a few hours every week they make small batches of what many consider the best specialty beers. Their beers are robust and flavorful. They use the best Hallertau and brewer’s Gold varieties of hops.

Bottle from Super Saver. Hazy magenta pour with 1-finger pink head. Aroma of strong tart cherries, some peaty woodsy malt, and some oaky funk. The flavor is mostly tart cherries, with some boggy, peaty malt notes. Not as tart as Cantllon’s offerings, but much less sweet than the New Glarus Red. I’ll bet a mix of 2 parts Cantillon kriek with 3 parts New Glarus would give an approximation of this beer. At any rate, it is rock solid.

Bottle. Cherry is in good blance with the beer in this fluidum, but it is more like a lambic.

Tasted at Vinens Verden... Really nice kriek. Pink, red in colour. Cherryfreshness, almost as a lambic in taste.

Bottle from The Offie, Leicester. Blood red and pink with a small pink head. Aromas are sour cherries and blood oranges with wood, hints of soft cheese and wood. Aromas are tart cherries and lemon with creamy cheese. Woody and dry towards the finish. Pleasingly agricultural.

Catford Beer Festival. Shared a bottle with Harrisoni. First sample poured carefully without sediment. Red coloured with a pink head. Sharp, fruity aroma with lots of woody notes, spice and pepper. To taste there is lots of pleasing dryness, tart cherry character, oak and mostly sour. Rather like a kriek lambic. With the sediment poured in the it was less attacking, the sourness smoothed out and the carbonation also. A really rather interesting beer.

75cl bottle shared with Joeh at Catford BF 06. Hazy red colour with thin pink head. Sour farmyard aroma. Faint red cherry. Interesting sourness in mouth. Farmyard is quite strong on aroma. Added a bit of yeast and made it creamier. The guy pouring it, poured it clear and gave us the sediment in a separate glass.

Bottle... Cloudy, orange-red ale with a mid-sized, creamy, pink head. Great retention. Woodsy, acidic aroma. Must, lemon and cherries. Sour cherry flavor with lots of astringent wood and no sweetness. Medium-bodied and sharp with sufficient carbonation. Sour, dry finish. Very nice!

Pours a nice, deep reddish color. Thin pinkish head. Sour cherries fill the aroma. Taste is very dry and very sour/tart. A decent amount of cherries hit the tastebuds.
