Commercial Description:
Kriek de Rank is real Belgian sour ale fermented with cherries and then blended with real lambic. It is unfiltered and unpasterized. The de Rank brewery was founded by two good friends; Nino Bacelle & Guido Devose. To them, brewing is a weekend hobby, not an occupation. For a few hours every week they make small batches of what many consider the best specialty beers. Their beers are robust and flavorful. They use the best Hallertau and brewer’s Gold varieties of hops.

Bottle - GBBF 2005. A rich vivrant red coloured beer with a sour farmyard cheesy almost lambic like dry aroma. The taste is beautiful. Full flavours featuring rich sour fruits and more lambic qualities. A truly great beer which I could happily drink time after time.

Blood red colour. Fairly low head. Acidic aroma with notes of barnyard and raisins. Tart cherry flavour. Somewhat chalky finish.

Nice roof-tile red with fine light colored (warm-pink) head. Full smell of cherry tart and rubarbe jam. Also a faint spicy accent and a refreshing soury touche. Taste is medium sour and very cherry like. Also hints of wet wood, empty wine barrels, fruit-cakes, and old burgundy wine. Afthertaste is clean, refreshing and end with a faint woody bitter touch.

Bottle, vintage 2003: This pours a dirty pink color and has an aroma to match - a funky, musty sour cherry with hints of dark sweet cherries beneath it all. In the mouth it’s quite sour, in a very good way. The sweet-sour cherry flavor is quite tasty ’n’ refreshing with a bitter-sweet finish.

(Bottle 75 cl) This is apparently and odd mix of Lambic and Oud Vlaams Bier. The latter is usually very dark, which I dont trace here. Very red color and the sourness from lambic is apparent already in the nose. Very pronounced sourness, but not extreme. The lambic clearly trumps the other beer, while the cherries are also quite noticeable. Actually harmonic. 231004

750ml. Bottle. I just couldn’t wait for this one. I just got it in from John’s Grocery. It pours a glowing pinkish red color with a fluffy white pink head and lacing. Nose of sour cherries, and horse hair. Wonderful tart cherry and barn yard flavors. Very acidic. Very nice beer. What a treat!
