Commercial Description:
Kriek de Rank is real Belgian sour ale fermented with cherries and then blended with real lambic. It is unfiltered and unpasterized. The de Rank brewery was founded by two good friends; Nino Bacelle & Guido Devose. To them, brewing is a weekend hobby, not an occupation. For a few hours every week they make small batches of what many consider the best specialty beers. Their beers are robust and flavorful. They use the best Hallertau and brewer’s Gold varieties of hops.

Bottle. Lightly hazy reddish color with perhaps a bit of brown also. Nice pinkish head fades out quickly and leaves no lacing. Aroma is nicely fruity, you can get some sourness in the nose. Pseudo-lambic like aroma in the sour department. Nice bits of sourness, lacking in that lambic tartness that I want to associate with this beer. Lighter bodied and at times a bit watery. Fair.

Mild acidity with a good Cherry tartness. Soft on the palate with a good balance between fruit and malt notes. Well done but not near sour enough for me.

Sour acidic cherry aroma. Unclear, bloody colour. Sour, acidic, earthy flavour with metallic finish. Tastes a bit like drinking wine after lager.

Golden-red colored, thin but long lasting head. Very light smelling, mostly of cherry with some light wood undertones. My initial taste sensation was lacking, but it hits on the aftertaste with sour cherries. I definitely like fruit beers more sweet, the sour or bitter sensation ruins the point of a fruit beer to me.

Pours a bright hazy ruby with a thin, short-lived off-white head. Aroma is of tart barnyard and cherry acid. Starts very tart, dry, and acidic with a touch of cheesiness before a puckering finish. Has some subtle complexities, but they are hard to notice when I’m starting to get heartburn. There’s no way I could ever drink a whole 750ml bottle of this myself, in fact I had trouble with half that. Did I mention that this stuff is way overpriced too?

Redish colour with some small pinkish colour. Pretty high in carbonation. Has a little lambic aroma and sour cherries aroma. Taste of sour cherries and a little acid taste. You don’t taste the alcohol at all. A lovely bee. Friends that never tasted a kriek before liked it.
