Commercial Description:
A fantastic Christmas beer, but one that defies the universal custom of a stronger, spicier beer for the holiday season. At 7% alcohol by volume, this one is relatively lighter in alcohol than the Guldenberg, and does not pack the hop punch of the XX. It combines some of the best elements of those other two beers – with a fine balance of malt and hops, complex character, a refreshing dryness, and a gorgeous cellar aroma – but is distinguished by its festive copper color. The 1999 Père Noël was a bit of a departure, with a very appealing yeasty tartness that was not readily discernible in earlier years.

Pere Noel had some nice champagne-like qualities in its flavor and mouthfeel, and an interesting aroma, but there wasn’t really enough flavor to it to really peak my interest. This beer poured an opaque orange-pink with lots of fine head. Aroma contained lots of earthiness, isoamyl acetate (banana/circus peanuts), and ethyl butyrate (bubble gum). There was a champagne flavor and mouthfeel, but not much in the way of flavor. Mouthfeel was a bit thin. I wouldn’t recommend this beer.

bottle orange/copper pour with a lot of carbonation leading to a two fingered frothy head. aroma is hoppy, spice, rich malt and apricot. big hoppiness. dry bitterness, mild spice. fairly one dimensional and a little thin. enjoyable but not worth the price.

Bottle shared with Hogtown Harry and Blankboy, Blankboy’s bottle. Spicy, boozy, yeast, light malt aroma. Dark yellow, decent sized white head. Good taste - yeast, hops, spicy. Easy to drink. Interesting tinny hop taste and linger. Good.

My Bottle (330ml) shared with HogTownHarry & tupalev. Pours a cloudy orange-amber with an average size diminishing off-white head. Aroma’s sugary sweet along with spices and Belgian yeast. Somewhat odd flavour of Belgian yeast, spices, sweet malt, quite a bit of hops in the finish and a weird spice or something that I can’t place. Average bodied. Pretty good, interesting for sure.

Bottle (330ml). Shared with blankboy and tupalev, blankboy’s bottle. Cloudy amber, large lasting fluffy white head. Dry, sharply spicy Belgian yeast aroma, sweet malt, light banana esters. Initial taste - pungent raw crushed green peppercorn, then it fades to pungent green dry bitter hops, yeast, spice and sweet malt are completely overwhelmed. Average body, nice carbonation, very heavily astringent, with a long tongue-coating bitterness. Weird, but interesting.
