Commercial Description:
A fantastic Christmas beer, but one that defies the universal custom of a stronger, spicier beer for the holiday season. At 7% alcohol by volume, this one is relatively lighter in alcohol than the Guldenberg, and does not pack the hop punch of the XX. It combines some of the best elements of those other two beers – with a fine balance of malt and hops, complex character, a refreshing dryness, and a gorgeous cellar aroma – but is distinguished by its festive copper color. The 1999 Père Noël was a bit of a departure, with a very appealing yeasty tartness that was not readily discernible in earlier years.

It pours a light brown carmel w/a small head that laces the glass nicely. First taste is SWEET??? nothing that I was expecting, being that it says it is a hoppy christmas ale. It has none of the christmas tree taste or hops bite that usually goes w/the what the title suggests. But that’s enough of my ranting, it is a good beer that I would recommend. So, here’s to you, cheers.

Bottle at a tasting at Andy’s I think Peter brought this. Pours a hazy golden amber with some brown highlights. Aromas of caramel, toffee, and a bit of citrus. Pretty thick with some malt, and more caramel coming through. Light bitter finish.

Bottle: Deep orange with a dense light tan head. Chalky dry phenolic aroma- subtle caramel in the back of nondescript fruit notes. Creamy texture. Lightly bitter flavor but very dry overall- chalky with some underlying soft Belgian amber malts and a grassy finish. Dry and easy drinking.

In bottle. Sweet smelling and delicious. Appeared to be a hazy brown, and that’s even without swirling the yeast in the bottom of the bottle. I appreciated the amount of malt, and the sugared fig flavor.

Bottle. Yeast hop aroma. Cloudy amber orange with a white head. The flavor is a nice mix of bitter hops, sweet malt and sour yeast. Medium bodied with an average carbonation and a dry finish.

Bottle from Belmont Party. Poured hazy orange color with an average frothy off-white head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Moderate yeast and resin hop aroma. Medium body with a dry texture and soft carbonation. Medium bittersweet flavor with a medium bittersweet finish of moderate duration. My expectations where met with a change of pace brew.

Bottle from Knightly Spirits. Pours an orange colored body with a small white head. The aroma includes grain and a pleasant hint of pine tree. Distinctive Belgian horse blanket and subtle bittter hops are present in the flavor. Subtle dry finish complements the medium carbonation and medium body. An interesting X-mas ale to say the least.
