Commercial Description:
A fantastic Christmas beer, but one that defies the universal custom of a stronger, spicier beer for the holiday season. At 7% alcohol by volume, this one is relatively lighter in alcohol than the Guldenberg, and does not pack the hop punch of the XX. It combines some of the best elements of those other two beers – with a fine balance of malt and hops, complex character, a refreshing dryness, and a gorgeous cellar aroma – but is distinguished by its festive copper color. The 1999 Père Noël was a bit of a departure, with a very appealing yeasty tartness that was not readily discernible in earlier years.

Big bottle. Cloudy orange-amber. LIght foam and lacing. Soft restrained fruit aroma. Flavour: pepper notes some Saison qualities, lemon and bursts of orange. Aftertaste leaves a cloud of soft pepper and cherry blossoms in your mouth. Like someone dressed up the XX and told it to behave.

A: Golden color with a fluffy white head that settles quickly to leave slight lacing. Fresh hops aroma with wildflowers, grass and mixed spices. Flavor starts with spice and progresses to bitterness in the middle and finish. Nice body. Definitely a top Christmas beer, unusual for its hoppiness and lack of sweetness.

Clear goldblond coloured beer with small white head. Herby hoppy aroma. Full sparkling palate. Finish is herby hoppy ending with a bitter and roasted touch.

11 and 1/5 ounce bottle. Pours a hazy orange with a small pinkish head. Aroma has a good citrus hoppiness followed by gentle malts. Flavor is initially of dirty old nickels, then come pleasant grapefruity hops to wash that away and install themselves as the predominant, bittler, hoppy flavor. Maltiness is a little timid beneath the hops, but it works out. Thicker viscosity, soft mouthfeel. Pleasant. better than I expected. Overall, good to very good.

75 cl bottle from Ohtsuki. Another gusher from De Ranke! I need a plastic table cloth whenever I open their beers. Light copper colored beer with a tall, rocky head. Aroma of dry, citrus hops, pine, green apples, golden malts and honey. There is a bit of barnyard funk in there too, but just a bit. Controlled sweetness, dry, with a touch of caramel. Hoppy flavor with subdued caramel malt. Citrus, pine, honey, minerals. Very earthy, with a subdued fruity sweetness and big noble hops. Elegant, dry, and wonderfully balanced. Can’t tell what spices are in there. Love it.

Cloudy and thin looking. Thin and a bit watery, but some alcohol. A bit of wheat tang. Finishes clean.

Bottle. Clear orange body with a medium off white head. Malty, fruity and light acidic aroma. Light sour flavour with notes of fruit, spices, caramel and citrus. Light cellar like but nice.

Orange-blond in colour with nice off white head. Aroma is slight hoppy, with a soft edge of sourness, some malts and some nuts. Taste is slight spicy, hot with hints of pepper, cereals and some fruits. aftertaste is hoppy, bitterish and slight fruity with dry note of honey.
