Commercial Description:
A fantastic Christmas beer, but one that defies the universal custom of a stronger, spicier beer for the holiday season. At 7% alcohol by volume, this one is relatively lighter in alcohol than the Guldenberg, and does not pack the hop punch of the XX. It combines some of the best elements of those other two beers – with a fine balance of malt and hops, complex character, a refreshing dryness, and a gorgeous cellar aroma – but is distinguished by its festive copper color. The 1999 Père Noël was a bit of a departure, with a very appealing yeasty tartness that was not readily discernible in earlier years.

Cloudy orange with a big and lasting off-white head. Strong herbal hop aroma with fruity yeast notes. A touch of grapefruit and other brett qualities. Dry and hoppy flavour with a solid and lasting bitterness, and again a delicious touch of brett.

Non-brett, also 2009 on tap: More fruity and refreshing. Still a really awesome drinkable beer.

Poured with a slight head and a tiny bit a lace. Color isn’t copper, but a slightly hazy light to medium amber. Aroma is spicy, malty, a hint of hop, yeasty, caramel, nougat, toffee, marshmallows, and toast. Flavor is similar; add pretzels, heavier on the yeast bitterness, and a tang that I can’t identify. Great carbonation and good body. Finish is fairly long and bitter. Not bad. Very slightly boozy. Not a quaffing beer, but not really a sipper either.

Pours a pretty clear golden with a fairly thick off-white head. Aroma is fruity and slightly malty and just a little bit sweet. Flavor is sharp, fruity, somewhat hoppy but not too bitter and slightly sweet. Texture is lively and tingly so it seems to dance on the tongue and down the pipes.

Bottle shared by acrdz(mj) on 7/3/08: Pours a murky copper bronze with a frothy, well-lacing white head. Aroma of earthy citrusy spice and some biscuity pale and caramel malts. Starts fairly full and well-carbonated with a mild bready sweetness and piny earthy notes with a drier, more bitter finish. A pretty decent Belgian ale.

Hazy golden orange with a short lived fluffy white head. Aroma of bread, Belgian yeast, grass, and citrus. Tastes of straw/hay, bread, Belgian yeast, slight orange, and perfume-like hops with a nice crispness and a mild dryness.

Sampled from an 11.2 oz brown bottle this beer poured a murky orange-amber color with a small tan head. The aroma was tart and bitter with moderate grapefruit. The flavor was tart and bitter grapefruit and pine with noted sugar, a yeasty undertone and a moderate sweettart candy element. The finish was long dry and tart. Medium body. Interesting.

Tap at C4, Odense. Pours clody golden coloured with a nice egg white and staying head. Beautiful beer. Aromas of grass, grapefruit, oranges, lemons and some brett. Dry and hoppy flavour with notes of spices, malt and a touch of brett. Delicious brew!
