Since 1965, An De Ryck has been brewing a slightly stronger beer in the traditional pale ale style to celebrate Christmas and the New Year. The use of caramel malt determines the colour and taste of this beer.

Apple flavor and some spices. Also very metallic and watery, not like other nice and thick winter ales.

Weak, flattish Belgian pale. Aroma is rich malty. Dark golden wth good white head and lace. Taste is thinnish, although the foam of the head contributes in the finish. A bit alcohol heat. OK but uninteresting. Yeast comes into it, but does not contribute much.

330ml bottle (Cracked Kettle, Amsterdam)
Coppery brown, small tight head. Sweet caramelly and fruity aroma - sticky fruits like figs. Pleasant carbonation, slightly soapy retronasals. Slightly acidic palate. Hints of old coffee, and barky stickingess in the mouth. Some acidity too. Slightly confused beer. Finish is barky and soapy bitterness, quite drying.

Light brown color with orange tints and a thin head. Fruity, spicy aroma, light caramel, some citrus, rather sweet. Very light mouthfeel, and gassy too. Strange. Light malts, thinnish, minerally, similar to a ginger ale or Sprite. No body. Watery and boring.

bottle at Delirium in Brussels - Pours hazy brown with a thin light tan head. It has a bready malt aroma with some caramel and spice. The flavor is malty and spicy with minimal hops. The latter is surprising given that they’re calling it a pale ale. Maybe they mean something different than we do? It’s medium bodied with light carbonation. It’s fairly good, but there’s nothing particularly impressive in this seasonal brew.

from crackedkettle.com - cloudy reddish-brown colour with a firm and persistent beige foam; dusty and bready nose; understated notes of red fruits; sweet and with a moderate malt body; unclean palate, quite tasteless and almost no bitterness; aftertaste of bread and otherwise empty - disappointing

Bottle. Light malty smell, some yeast and bread, not that strong. The nice creamy medium large beige head has a normal duration. The body is red-brown. The taste is not very strong, some malt and a medium bitter finish. The body is light, dry and with a lively carbonation. Nothing special.
