Commercial Description:
This "Vlumschen Bruynen" or "Flemmish brown" (syn: old brown) was first brewed in 1986 on the occasion of the brewery’s centenary. It has a sweetish roasted bouquet and a mild port-like palate which generates a long bitter finish. Retired 2006 for the new Arend range.

330ml bottle (Mallaskukko, Turku) Dark reddy brown, no head. Mämmi smell. Also tastse of mämmi initially until a slight fizz takes over. Then the dark roasted malt returns for a long sweet dark finnish. Too sweet.

75 cl bottle at Delirium Café, Göteborg, Sweden. Hazy dark amber, medium creamy off-white head. Roasted malt aroma, a bit nutty, with piney hops. A bit thin for a belgian ale. A bit sweet to start with, but dry and bitter in the finish. A bit 1D but quite nice.

Bottled. Dark amber colour. Low head. Tidbits and licorice in aroma. Lively mouthfeel, with bassets tidbits, iron and licorice. Very well balanced. Low sweetness. I believe this beer was 6+ abv.

330 ml bottle. Slightly hazy dark red body with a small brown head. Aroma is sweet malt. Flavor is rather sweet, ordinary Belgium ale with a hint of sour acidity deep, deep down there somewhere. I like the style of this beer, but believe they don’t really get it right.

Bottled 0.7 liter. Amber-brown coloured, short lasting head. Malty and fruity aroma. Delicate malty and sour flavour, some fruit. Nice easy-to-drink Flemish Sour.

Dark amber colou, brief lively head. Red currant aroma. Medium sweet with perfectly soft mouthfeel. Evident malt flavour backed by some grassy hops. Mild and likable. It’s just okay for me.

Foamy tanned head, muddy amber body. Prune, brown sugar, yeast and fruit in the aroma, smells a bit fusty though its a quite young sample. No sourness what so ever. Dominating yeasty malty flavor with some spices and fruit, but again a great lack of anything sour, it is a flemish sour ale after all. Uninteresting, a bit odd and sexless as a mf.
