@ <a href=http://ratebeer.com/events-detail.asp?eventID target=_new> Zythos Bier Festival 2008, Sint Niklaas, Belgium. Clear medium yellow orange color with a virtually none appearance, virtually none lacing, head. Aroma is moderate apple, wheat, wood, sour - fresh green apples. Flavor is moderate sweet, moderate to light heavy acidic and moderate sour with a average duration. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is flat. (020308)

Draught at De Heeren van Liedekercke. Mildy fruity and plasticky aroma. Almost clear amber colour. Very small frothy head. Unfortunately, the flavour also has a little plastic. It does not really put me off, but seems a little strange. This plastic flavour goes away after a while, leaving a nicely citric beer. The flavour is a fruity citrus note. Not quite lemon, but quite close. Not vinegary or painful to drink. Has the usual hint of moldiness which helps balance the acid slightly. Low carbonation. Gets better the closer I get to the bottom of the glass.

Straw coloured and slightly hazy. Phenolic-minty aroma with herbal, bitter, tannic sour notes. Tart and herbal with slight pedio in the finish. Characterful, if nothing else.

Clear golden with no head. Aroma had brett and mild barnyardy notes. Flavour had brett, barnyard, lemons and woody notes. Finished sour.

Brewed februari 2004, straight from cask at the brewery in a one litre swing top bottle. Orange color, cloudy, absolutely flat. No carbon, no head. Very oaky and dusty aroma with lemon and honey. Just a bit of sourness in the flavor. Lemon, orange, oak, some honey. Just a bit of milk. Lemon and oak aftertaste. Good and firm young lambic, well suited for making a good geuze. Lightyears better as the sweet beers De Troch offers.

A Mes rate: Draught at ZBF. A reasonable attempt at a proper lambic. A little too buttery and just a little too sweet. It’s all there just not quite as refined as it should be. Sourness is quite high, a little sandalwood, dry fnish. So so.

Amber, hazy, full of flunky bits; no head. Woody nose, wood-varnish or thinner. Taste is pure acetic acid and some citric acid. Flavour of completely extracted wood and saddlesoap. Mouthfeel: WHOAH: puckering at the limit of the acceptable. Well yes, Godisgood must be a good blender to make something from this... was: 7/3/6/3/13 - 3.2 New rating 1yr old 2007:
1mm transparant head over yellow lambic with a verdigris shine. Nose: Citrussy, brett (definitely) horseblanket, washing powder, lemonbalm. Taste: Lemony, very tart, bit of human sweat (sorry, really not bad), instead of horses’ one. Lemon flavour is all-overpowering. Palate: Terribly dry, dry-out effect, fantastic; puckeringly dry. Overall: De Troch is getting better & better (again). Good show!

From the cask at the brewery. 2½ years old. It could not get any worse after I had tasted their young lambic. Luckily this was not bad. Slightly woody and acidic. Not as complex nor sour as the best lambics, but definately acceptable. While drinking this, it was very funny listening to one of the brewers telling about how De Troch fights for traditional lambic throughout the world.
