Commercial Description:
This German-style lager is a refreshing, light-bodied beer. It is easily enjoyed on a warm summer day or evening. Made with 100% traditional Pilsen malt, imported noble Bavarian hops, and authentic German lager yeast, it has been fermented and “laagered” at cool temperatures using techniques developed and perfected by German brewers centuries ago. The art of making great beer revolves about the brewing process (by contrast, winemaking is almost all about the climate and soil qualities found in the grape-growing regions). As such, the first successful “production” brewers were monks. This has little to do with their spirituality and a lot to do with their education. Because monks were capable of keeping meticulous written records of their brewing processes, they were able to repeat their successes and avoid making the same mistakes from batch to batch. They introduced predictability and repeatability to the world of beer production because of their mastery of the written word. The word “Lager” comes from the German verb “to store” – before refrigeration was invented, German monks would “lager” or “store” their beer underground in cool caves. This isolated certain strains of yeast which would continue to slowly ferment the beer over long periods of time. These yeast strains today, as well as the cool fermentation temperatures and longer fermenting times, contribute to the “clean” or “crisp” nature of our beloved “lager” beers.
