I’m a sucker for carmelly malt, and this one’s got it in spades. It could stand to be a little more viscous, but for an American dunkel, it’s pretty nice. | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Mar 21, 2007 Bottle from Lou18 via Mystery Swap 2.0. Pours turbid deep coppery/brownish with a big, fluffy, off-white head. The head is louder than a two-bit whore who’s just been stiffed. The aroma is caramel malty, with some citrus (orange, tangerine), hops, and slight spicy notes. The flavor is caramel malty with a solid hop bill, mid-palate mango, tangerine, and black pepper, and some finishing cognacy notes. Very complex in flavor and aroma, with an extremely lively, well balanced fruity and hoppy palate that provided some aromas and flavor hints that I seldom see in lagers, but would like to see more of.
