Had no idea that Defiant was waiting to be discovered right under my nose all this time. I will return soon, no doubt. Porter was very dark, but tasted much lighter and smoother than expected.

Thin mouthful fairly sweet. Finish had some nice malt flavor, but this one missed the mark for me. puzzl (2647), New York, New York, USA

| 2.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 2/10 | 2/5 | 7/20 | Apr 24, 2009 Cask at Spuyten Duyvil. Poured an opaque black color. The head was thick and tan with good retention and lacing. Smelled of chocolate with light grass and roasty notes. Medium bodied and slightly tart with delicate sweetness. Roasty malt, odd fruitiness (almost like tart cherry), and a bit of chocolate came out in the flavor. Looked good, decent aroma, but fell flat on its face when I tasted it. coldbrewky (736), Saugerties, New York, USA
| 2.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 8/20 | Nov 30, 2008 Had this for the first pint at dinner tonight at the dutch tavern in Saugerties.
Great, I thought, a nice regional brew....as the pint glass arrived from the bar it looked fine , dark with a proper ssized head. Unfortunatly for me that is where the pleasantries stopped. " I asked her for credit and she answered me NAY! such a customs as yours I can have any day. Sour and tart. Nose of dank wet anerobic compost. Hop aroma of dry ten year old stale and weevil eaten hops. TRY AGAIN, I say Defiantly! I’ve no other experience with this bewery other than to think that the brewers are being defiant to both my taste and wallet. I did not ask for this pint to be removed from my bill for I did not want to piss off my bartender, I did mention that it was total crap though and reccomended that they remove it from their draft selection, time will tell Glouglouburp (2874), Montreal, Quebec, Canada
| 1.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 1/5 | 3/10 | 2/5 | 6/20 | Aug 28, 2008 In short: Moisture and rotting flavours abound in this problematic fruity dark ale of some kind.
How: Cask at Blind Tiger Ale House NYC
The look: Ugly murky dark mahogany body with almost no head
In long: Nose of is like opening a bag of old dark fruits that has been forgotten in a cupboard for a few weeks. Taste continues along the nose line and gets even more insulting. Moist whole-wheat bread, rotting dark grapes, blackberries, wet fur, grapejuice. The beer is also a bit meaty, meat-loaf kind of meaty, no kidding. An overall moisture sensation was really bugging me. There wasn’t really a sign of infection or anything so I don’t know whether to blame the beer or the cask conditioning but there was definitively something wrong here. That pint had more problems than a 1982 Hyundai Pony with 250,000 miles on the counter and owned by a over-stressed middle-level manager with a temper problem. Capa (993), Yokosuka, Japan
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Aug 17, 2008 Cask at The Beer Table. Black with a tan head. Malty, light cocoa, sweet caramel malts in the aroma. Thin bodied with light carbonation. Flavor is light malts, sweet, some roasted malts, dark fruit, and slightly sour. A mild porter, but very nicely done.
