Beer was crystal clear at the beginning of the pour, but was a cloudy copperish color with nice head and lacing at the end of the pour. The aroma was mediciny alcohol. The flavor had a burnt woodchip flavor as well as the typical Belgian dark fruits and candied sugar. I wasn’t a fan of the smokiness of this beer. It reminded of the DFH Chicory Stout...but that flavor worked better in a stout than a Belgian. yespr (12429), Copenhagen O, Denmark

Caramel, fruity and mild yeasty aroma. Flavour is sweet, plum to dried fruit with a light apple touch. Mellow yeasty note too. Lingering fruity note into the finish, quite smooth finish. | 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jan 19, 2008 Pours a very dark amber/copper with a thin off-white head. Aroma is mostly spicy malts and Belgian yeast, with some alcohol and dark sweet fruits also. The taste is quite sweet with some background spice and Belgian twang. Some heat comes in on the finish. Not nearly as complex as compared with other stong Belgians, but still decent. Alcohol is quite apparent for 8.5%. blklab2007 (983), Connecticut, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jan 18, 2008 on tap at the ginger man, poured a dark brown color with minimal head and very light carbination. aroma has malt, light smoke, caramel, and a distinct molasses. mouth feel is medium with flavors of smooth malt, light back ground hop, caramel, some peat, and although it is a sticky brew comes off very smooth. finish is light, no noticeable bite or bitterness and leaves a malt taste on the tongue. 17thfloor (1513), Chicago, Illinois, USA

Lots of yeast in the aroma, malt and prunes/oranges too. Body is light and fizzy to an extreme. Sweet toasty malts, yeasty, spicy and a slight metallic finish. Good belgian but the carbonation is just so extreme that it makes it hard to really get a good taste. TheEpeeist (1494), Swarthmore, Pennsylvania, USA

Nose is yeasty caramel and dried apricots with spices; a touch medicinal. Light tangy carb, medium light but substantial. Taste is banana, candi, sour apple and nutmeg. A tasty Belgian treat with a kick. LinusStick (1855), Moon Twp, suburb of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jan 11, 2008 A nice, if not typical, Belgian strong. Had this New Years Eve and just found the piece of paper I wrote it on. Pour was a nice bubbly orange with a huge 3 finger off white head. Aroma was very fruity...orange, coriander and heavy yeast. Taste was the same. Very carbonated with a sweet candy sugar element that is a little too sweet for me. Nice bottle, though. cheapdark (2050), Monacatootha, Pennsylvania, USA
| 2.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 9/20 | Jan 11, 2008 Barely any detectable aroma, but perhaps a mild mustiness about it. Brown like iced tea, not hazy. Very little carbonation. The taste is unique, a musty farm qualtiy on a moldy palate. Has a bit of tartness in the background that makes it interesting. Hides alky well for a 9%. Overall just a tad too strong for my tongue.
