33cl bottle, bought in Belgium. chunky yeast floating around in an opaque, dark redwood coloured beer, with a small, foamy head. The smell is full, creamy and fresh with hints of strawberry, chocolate and banana. The taste is sweet with a bit of bitterness. The palate is fizzy cherry mixed with solid, dark-beer sweetness. A surpirsing mix of tastes which feels a bit like fruits dipped in chocolate fondu mixed with very fizzy coke. Bit too alcoholic.

Bottle... dark brown color, brownish head. One of the best beers I’ve ever had. Belgians really know their beer!!!!!!

Dark brown small tan head. Strong aroma of sugary fruits. Fruity and metallic in taste. Nothing special.

From the bottle. Aroma is peppery, clovey, fruity phenols and esters forward followed by light caramel, orange peel and dried apricot. Appearance is a hazy dark brown with a well retained off white head and great lacing. Flavor is sweet fruity malt forward, with dried fruit, alcohol, very low bittering hops, pear and a slight resinyness. Mouthfeel is medium bodied, high carb evident with low bite and good warmth. This used to be my favorite beer. It’s still excellent, just has to open up a little.

bottle. sweet scent. dark reddish brown color with lingering tannish head that never fully disappears. sweet taste with hints of alcohol.

Bottle (8.5%). Pours cloudy ruby with a big fluffly off-white head. Nose is winter fruit with hops and some sweet maltiness. Alcohol also present, but quite well disguised. Mouth tastes, wow, strong, and malty with warming alcohol ever present. Caramel malt is there, with some soft biscuit taste and some mashed dark fruit. Tastes very thick and runs off to a sweet, slightly less balanced palate, with alcohol present all the way through, could be more robust. Alcohol not well disguised. OK, but a bit too normal (and only an attempt at normal too!)

Rated 7/17/07. Beautiful Dark reddish-brown body with a pillowy off-white head that leaves behind a patchy lacing. Tiny effervescent bubbles give away the high carbonation. The aroma was primarily dark fruits, caramelized sugar, yeast, and alcohol. Oddly, the aroma seemed to be stronger when it was cold than when it warmed, which is the opposite of what I would expect from a Belgian. The flavor is mostly fig, caramel and yeast. The alcohol is noticeable, which is a bit disappointing. The body is a bit too sticky and sweet for my liking. Its overly syrupy. I wouldn’t mind splitting a small bottle with a friend for desert, but I would not make this a regular drinking beer.

Bottle @ Publick House, Brookline, MA. Pours a nice dark reddish brown with nice carbonation bubbles making their way to the top of the glass. The aroma was mostly a mixture of fruit, caramel, and sugar. The flavor is largely dark fruit with some sweet sugar notes toward the end. Alcohol and yeast somewhat noticeable. A good drinking beer, but nothing otherworldly.
